Question Introduction & a Question

Hello, My name is Debbie and I am new to this forum. My husband and I have been camping since 2010. We own a 2010 Jayco Eagle Super-Lite that we bought new in 2010. When we purchased the TT we also purchased a Jay Plus Extended Warranty (72 months). Here is my question: When does the extended warranty begin? Does it begin after the 2 year Jayco manufactures warranty expires or does it start the day you take possession of the travel trailer? I have looked all over the service contract and the booklet and it simply does not say! Help please.

I wasn't sure where to post this so please move if needed. Thank you for your help.

Welcome!

Don't know whether or not the terms have changed since you purchased, but as of November 2015 the Jay Plus starts immediately, so you essentially only get a five years use out of it - the factory warranty covers the first two years.

It starts when you take possession of the trailer. If you cancel the refund is prorated back from your pick up date. This happened to us on our previous TT. The dealer makes it sound like you have a 7 yr warranty but it really only 5 yrs. So you are under double warranty for the first 2 yrs.

Only you may have trouble collecting on a double warranty. So essentially you have a 5 year warranty extended from the 2 yr one you get with the purchase.

BTW, Welcome to the forum. We are friendly here and like to have fun and go camping, so join right in.

Personally I think these extended warranties are a ripoff most of the time. When I bought my wife's truck the dealer wanted to sell us one with my choice of $50 or $100 deductibles at a cost of almost $3,000. I still get mail and phone calls trying to sell me one for this car and a Cadillac I never heard of, both costing well over $3,000.

Out of curiosity I called my credit union. For $1300 they'll sell me a better plan coverage-wise with zero deductible, and I can buy it after my factory warranty ends.

If you want to make your Jayco dealer happy, give him a check for a thousand or so and set aside the difference for future repairs not covered by your factory warranty.

I can't remember ever having repairs to my cars, trucks, trailers, boats or motorcycles that would have come to the cost of the extended warranties that were offered. The money I haven't spent on these ripoffs would buy me a nice trailer or car. Think about two or three thousand dollars NOT spent on a half dozen cars and trailers and other toys.

End of rant.
