Is an extended warantee worth it?

We just bought a new Jay Flight 22FB with the extended warranty, because my wife says, we have bad luck (totaled our last TT!). Would others of you who bought the extended warranty say it is worth it? I probably should have asked this before we did it, but....

I would say no... but that is just my opinion. I have always heard that extended warranties are not worth the cost.

I did not get one, I would rather put that money aside for a repair that may never happen.

Having the EW would not help in a total loss situation would it? I passed on the EW. Hope it was a good decision in the long run.

I never purchase EW's. Everything I've read in financial/consumer reports don't recommend them as a good value.

agreed. Most things that will break/require svc or fail typically will do so within its manufacture warranty and not worth the extra expense of a EW.

The companies offering the extended warranty make money off of them...so it probably is not worth what they charge. I have on occasion purchased an extended warranty for items that have a higher chance of being damaged. Example the TV I have in the camper. It stays mounted when towing and I know that shakes it up. It was only a few dollars for the warranty.

Consumer Reports recommends against buying the extended warranty on just about every product offering one, that they review. We have only one, on my wife's 2007 Ford 500 (Taurus) , and that one was pretty much given to us as part of a program vehicle (demonstrater) deal. My reasoning is that an EW will only be offered if the seller is reasonably sure that the likelyhood of something major going wrong is very low. JMHO

You get a 2 year warranty with your Jayco... EW's have a habit of finding a reason to deny the warranty... My buddy got fired from one of these companies for approving too many legitimate claims..

I have had two and both times they have paid off. One was on a van and the steering went out and I had a zero deductible as well. The other was on a Cougar TT and the A/C went belly up after warranty and I had a zero deductible. When I traded the TT I got the majority of my unexpired warranty back. It was relatively cheap about $100/year for 7 years and I got about $500 back. Anyway I generally do not buy extended warranties but the two times that I did they worked out.

They are insurance...no more or no less. Just like the $300+ I spend every three years on Coach Net Roadside Service. As others said generally they are not worth it particularly with Jayco with the two year warranty. But since you have bought it already just be aware of what is covered by the warranty and be particular aware of the hoops that you generally have to jump through to place a claim. I used to get Trailer Life and there was always someone in Action Line that wanted money from an extended warranty company but they rarely followed the terms to get coverage. Trust me they will not honor a claim if you do not dot your "i"s and cross your "t"s.

Thanks for everyone's reply. I'm not one for extended warranties either. We did this time. We'll see. All things being equal it'd be better if we never HAD to make a claim.

Agreed, I `ve always said the best warranty is the one you never have to use. During my two year warranty period I only had one claim, a 25.00 toilet valve module that I installed myself.
