For us it was finding the happy medium of not having to convert sleeping spaces for us and the two kids which got old. Along with not being so big that we had to get a 3/4 ton+ truck.

The bigger you go the drawback is that it is harder to find places to camp. My In-laws have a big 40' 5er and that really limits your options when getting reservations. At 25' (30' OAL) we are about as big as I would want to go. Sure a popup can get into more places but this works better for us. While we were shopping I found a site or video where someone had gone through all the national parks and evaluated what size rigs they could take. Getting up in the 35-40' lengths really limited what options are available and you are fighting more for those limited number of sites. 25-30' the number of sites available shot way up. Then of course the little popups could be supported basically on any site.

Not to offend anyone that enjoys camping in the campsites where everyone is stacked on top of each other but that isn't my idea of fun when they pack in as many units as possible. I would rather stay at home and sit around the campfire in my back yard. That is why I live in a rural area and not the subdivision.

Why do so many people feel like they have to have monster sized campers. I understand if your full time. Or have a large family. But it's just the two of us. And once in awhile our son my go. As for slide outs I didn't want one. It's that plain and simple. It's a lot less to worry with. I like trying to keep things simple.

must be this part of the country but I get the exact opposite for remarks. with our little 14 footer we always have somebody stopping by asking about it and remarking how nice it is and if they can see the inside of it. never happens with the big camper. I personally like the small one better for it just being what we need ( shelter and a toilet and shower) but the big one is nice to set in when it is cold and rainy or snowing out. everyone has a different idea of what camping is supposed to be.

And this is why there are so many sizes, floor plans, and camper types available. One size does not fit all.

We know a retired couple that has a large, older Airstream and I asked the guy why they don't downsize. He said they had talked about getting a smaller camper but theirs is paid off and when their grandchildren stay with them at the CG, they wanted the extra space.

I often see huge Class A's rolling into CGs with just an older couple in them and wonder why too.

Our 212qbw is perfect. Just the 2 of us. The only part that felt tight was the dinette. I made new tops for it and it is all good.

We have friends with big 5W's and pushers. We can hit numerous places off forest roads that they will not even consider.

I alluded to it in post #10 but didn't want to get spanked.

Well, it is Friday afternoon, and I held my tongue for almost a whole 24 hours. I can still taste the blood in my mouth from biting so long.

Our Eagle has been great and we believed all 36 feet were needed when we wintered in it. But now that we're living where winterizing will become a distant memory, I'm thinking a much smaller tt would be easier for weekend outings. But we have a couple higher priority items so most likely will not be trading soon, if ever.

So bigger is better - until it isn't.
