Is there a fuse I'm missing between Trailer battery and the trailer?

Drove home the new 2017 Jay Feather X17Z, towed like a champ, can't wait to hit the road.

Ready to unhook, raising the trailer off the hitch I apparently overloaded the lift, (hadn't fully unlatched the ball lock, guess they should have covered that style during the walk about) I have only used the type where you pull up the lock, not up AND back... the electric lift kicked off.
Raised by hand crank, good to know that works well.

Now, after plugged into 110 all week:
I have 12V DC power when plugged into 110 and when hooked to tow vehicle, including the lift.

Trailer battery reads 12.75 V, but nothing on the inside test panel?

On 110V all 9 volt systems work.
Tow vehicle plugged in all 9 volt systems work.

Dry camp, nothing?

What am I missing?

Yes, There is a 30 amp fuse out on the A Frame for the power jack. It is very common to blow that fuse if you hit the range of motion limit on the jack. It should be part of the wires coming out of your battery and just before the wires go into the camper.

I suggest you buy several fuses, not just one. I went through about 4 before I knew the jack limits.

In many of the newer units the jack fuse is also your main battery fuse, explaining why you lost all 12v from the battery. Runs directly from the converter when plugged in. It should be located on the outside, near the battery.

That happened to me too. Crawled under there and found the 30amp fuse block inline hanging there under the battery box.

The dealer told me to stop on the way home and get some extra fuses for the jack, just in case. He also warned me about the limits.

I blew one getting unhitched first time bringing it home, and the first time camping. Neither time was I near the limits, or hung up on the hitch, right in the middle of its travel. It happened a couple more times, then, for some reason the problem went away, maybe something was on the threads, don't know.

Seems the jack should be engineered with cutoff, or limit control switches to not cause the problem.

OK you old timers fess up - is there anyone who did not do this the first time you unhitched ?
That 30 amp fuse is always the first one to go.

Not me! But I had read about it here, and was aware of the issue. Still have not blown that fuse.

I am not that much of an old timer but like rkresge I had read about it ahead of time so I was aware of it. So when unhooking the trailer I pull the pin on the jack to lower the foot as much as I can. This way I don't have to worry about hitting that upper limit while trying to take the load off the WD hitch so I can remove the bars.

Before I found this forum I was "Ready - Fire - Aim"
Most of those experiences were not too painful, but keeping up on this forum most of the time I am now "Ready - Aim - Fire" and I have to admit it makes the experience much more enjoyable. There really are some great insights to be gained form reading this forum. Thanks all who contribute.

The jack fuse blowing is one of the main reasons I take along 1.5 feet worth of blocks. I don't want to use that jack anymore than is absolutely required to get my camper off the truck, and level. Haven't blown a fuse yet, but I probably will now that I've jinxed myself.

Thanks all, that was easy, actually had a break in the rains today. Crawled under and found the little bugger. As convenient as everything else is placed, why did they put that there? Up an running smooth now. Thanks again.

I would assume it is there because of the power jack or prep for one. Without it they would have to run power from the battery all the way inside the camper to where the other fuses are then all the way back out to the jack. This way they can just fuse near the point of use. On high draw items like this long runs need heavier gauge wire.

Is it a spade fuse? Mimi? Buss? Tall or short? I am trying where my.camper is, but would like to buy some extras while I'm thinking of it. My luck I'll wait to look myself, forget and get somewhere and blow the fuse and not have any. Can someone post a picture? I would assessment jayco normally uses same style onost bumper pull TT. I have a 284bhsw if it makes a difference.

Automotive style blade. Not the mini but the full size just like the fuse panel in the camper.

No worries. It should be a 30Amp. At least mine is. It wouldn't hurt to pick up one of those multi fuse packs or just throw some in a took kit bag that stays with the camper. If you are going to blow any of them it will probably be that 30 though. So be sure to have several. It never used to be an issue because you could grab a spare from the truck but our truck uses those mini blade fuses now so they won't fit.

I got my travel bag. Has misc wrenches, sockets, 1/2 battery impact, fuses, etc. I plan to add a jack. I'm ready to go camping. Weather is right. Can't wait!!!
