Jay Flight 28RLS Tongue Weight

Does anybody that has a 28RLS have a tongue weight they can share? My parents are looking at one and I want to know where the tongue weight is at with a loaded trailer. I can estimate, but I'd also like some real wold numbers as to where the tongue weight typically goes on that one. Closer to 10% or closer to 15%?

The factory number shows it at 11% on delivery. All storage compartments are in the front. You have your wardrobes in the very front. You are going to wind up at about 13% minimum, I would say.

An owner will probably give you a more accurate figure. But your question has me wondering about the tow vehicle.

Tow vehicle is a 2013 Sierra 1/2 ton. After weighing, they're about 800-900 lbs below GVWR. Should be okay for this trailer, but it will get maxed out.

Too much trailer for a 1/2 ton. They'll definitely be over on the GVWR. Unsafe to say the least.

Yeah I have to agree with goducks and my own personal experience. I don't know the tongue weight on mine but I know my 2500HD feels it. No way I would attempt to pull it with a 1500.

A few months ago I towed a Jayflight 28RBDS for my MIL. I have a 12 2500 CTD CC LB. I was only towing it about 6-7 miles so I didn't used a WD. Just the WD without spring bars. It only dropped my Ram about 1-1/2". I kept the speeds under 60mph as I was running on a short stretch of freeway for a 2 miles. I could definitely feel it. Even with sway control added I would still feel it back there.
Been there done that with SOB and a 1/2 ton towing 7300lbs. Maybe it's just me but I don't like running my stuff maxed out. It just makes the trip less relaxing. Camping should be about getting away and having some fun. Not about hoping you make it without incident every time you go.

I'm pulling my 27BHS with a 1/2 ton. It is maxed out and I feel it behind me, but for the most part, I haven't had any issues towing it. My tongue is at about 12%.

My parents towing will be mostly short trips around Michigan with no mountain towing. If the 28RLS is at 12% tongue weight, it will be right there for vehicle GVWR. They are comfortable with that, and they will have to do some careful packing. They don't plan on getting rid of the truck and they love the layout of the 28RLS, so they will find a way to make it work.

This is an old story. What a truck can do is way different from what it should do. I do not want to be in front of you if you have to make an emergency stop with this setup. Good luck to them.

IMO closer to 15%......, a 13% to 15% range is highly recommended for optimum TV handling of a 30ft or longer TT.

Typically the CAT (or Shirline) scale tongue weight results on "loaded" 30ft or longer front bedroom TT's are pushing/or at 15%...., at least the "scaled" results I've seen over the years.
