Saw your post a few years ago. Got me thinking:
My wife purchased our new 2014 198RD as we were at the beginning of the empty nest phase. It was the perfect size for us and did provide additional sleeping using the dinette and folding couch, for normal sized people. However, our son is well over six feet and he didn't quite fit on the dinette sleeper when we used the TT on a duck hunting trip after recently purchasing it. Since then we have tried to figure out a a way to utilize the both the dinette and the adjacent couch as a single unit when both are in the sleeping configuration. However with both in sleeping mode there is an approximate 8" gap between them. So a few weeks ago in preparation for an upcoming fishing trip, we decided to solve this problem. We built two 8" wide boxes using 3/4 " plywood which sit end to end. This worked great and resulted an a "RV queen" size bed which was actually slightly longer than the main bed. When not in use the two boxes can be used inside for a storing bedding or used outside as a bench or table. All in all it worked very good with minimal investment.
