Jayco 212QBW Solar

Bought a Jayco TT 212QBW last year. Got extra battery with Norfolk battery box. Zamp 600W pure sine inverter. Zamp 160 solar panel. How will this support off grid? Just by charging the batteries? or can I run air conditioner, lights, microwave and TV at the same time? I don't, we actually camp and love the outdoors. I just want to know what I can do with this set up. I'd have to cut a whole in the camper to direct connect solar panel to camper. Thanks in advance.

I'm sure that there are experts here that can give you much more specific info. But from what I know, you are expecting far too much from a 2 battery (what are your amp-hours?) and 160 watt solar panel.

You will not be able to run the A/C. Too much of a draw for your two batteries. Running A/C is not really practical on most solar set ups, unless you have a massive system.

You may not be able to run the microwave with a 600W inverter, as the micro may take more watts than that.
160 watt solar system is a pretty minimal system. It will do fine if you run your lights and a few hours of TV and don't run your battery down very far, and you have long, sunny days all the time.

What dewey02 said.

There is a solar social group in the JOF, 'RVing with SOLAR' that can probably answer every one of your questions.

Welcome to JOF!!!

To give you a little better answer we could use a little more information.
- What mfr, size and Ah rating is the battery(s)? (Interstate, Size 24/27, 84Ah)
- How long do you plan on dry-camping? Week-end? Week....
- All LED lights in the TT?
- Cold weather camping? (need heating system?)
- Watch much Tv at night?

The numbers add up..

In short....
AC is out, with standard batteries, more than likely the microwave is also out other than heating up a cup of coffee at high-noon with no cloud cover. You will get a few nights of cold weather camping.... but the 160 watt SOLAR panel will not be able to recoup all your Ah usage and in a few days you will not have enough power to run your heating system over night (in cold temps)

Add shade or cloudy/hazy days and your SOLAR output will be down to maybe 25% of the total.

Check out the JOF "RVing with SOLAR" social group. You will find a lot of SOLAR and BATTERY information there.

Again welcome to JOF

Don
