Jayco burned up

We think the fire started in the norcold refrigerator which I guess had a recall. We bought our unit used so didn't know about any problems. So no more jayco.

That is bad news!

The camper is replaceable, the family is not. I hope everyone is safe.

We're you at home, out camping, going down the road? Be nice for us to hear some details.

I opened my access panel this spring and boy is if dirty, dusty, and in general a mess. I have not done it yet, but I think this is the extra motivation I need to clean this area.

That's terrible to hear, I'm sorry. Hopefully everyone is okay.

Do you have information on the Norcold recall?

Not much else you can do. Compressed air as Schrederman mentioned, vacuum, and wipe what you can. I have slid the fridge completely out before to clean everything good, but most will never do that. Even with my residential fridge and solid exterior panel, it gets a little dirty back there.

On the Norcold recall, you can go to their site and plug in your s/n, or you can call them and they'll tell you if yours is affected by the recall. If I remember right there is a recall section somewhere on their site.

Cathidon, sorry to hear of your loss. I know it sucks and glad that it sounds like everyone is ok. Recall or not, it's just one of the few reasons I ditched my new Norcold for a residential fridge.

This is what I do. The tire chuck I use will blow air when I pull the trigger and not on a valve stem. On the way out I go right by my pole barn/shop, air up the tires or at least check them then blow out the fridge, water heater areas. It isn't a real concentrated nozzle so it doesn't blast the stuff too hard but enough to knock out any cobwebs and dirt/dust. I do live on a gravel road so it just prevents lots of layers from building up.

If you don't have easy access to a compressor they do make those canned air product for cleaning computers.

Before I gave my 6 hp, 60 gallon compressor to my son and got a pancake unit, I used an 11 gallon tank. I'd first top off my tires, and then use a small nozzle to blow out the fridge, air conditioner, furnace, and water heater. Done pretty often keeps it from being a major chore, but the air conditioner only gets blown out once a year.

Always sad to hear about someone having problems... Best of luck to you.
