Jayco Eagle Slides

Hey all, buying a Jayco Eagle Travel Trailer this weekend. My concern when buying a new trailer has always been slide technology and seals...Have you guys been happy with your slide technology?

Also, in general have you been happy with your Eagle travel trailer? Any immediate suggestions?

Congratulations on your Eagle and (if it hasn't been said already) welcome to the JOF.

We have a 2014 Eagle 5th wheel and it has 3 slides. Never had any problems with any of them. Hope I didn't just jinx myself. This is our first 5th wheeler after 30 years of camping and we just love it!

My Jayco MH is the first one I've had where I've been concerned about slides. My previous MHs have always had a fairly straight forward and doable manual slide setup in case something happened to the electric side. The Schwintek system on my current MH is a bit more cumbersome to manually operate. Fortunately it's on the small bedroom slide which seems to be less troublesome than the large living room slides (according to this forum's discussions).

That being said, I haven't had a problem with any of the slides on my rigs, either electrically or with bad seals.

My Eagle has 3 slides. Two are the old type and the small BR is a Schwintec.

We had a bottom seal on one of the big slide tear while in warranty and was replaced. No other slide seals problems.

We had a slide gear on one of the big drives go bad and was replaced under warranty.
We had a bolt shear on the slide drive motor/drive mechanism. I replaced it and found the other side had a loose bolt. I tightened it and have had no other problems.

So is the Shwintec slide one of the better technologies available? My trailer will be sitting it's entire life and my lake property, so slides will not take a ton of impact. They will be opened and closed, or simply left open during the summer depending on what forum suggests.

We have three slides on our 2014 Eagle and have had no problems with slides or seals. They are opened several times a month as we camp at least once a month and it is open and set up when it is at our house, under a shelter and plugged in. We do lube the slide seals and tracks several times a year.

Well that may be a controversial statement! LOL. There are a mix of complaints and lack of complaints. My experience is great but my slide is a small br one. Many I read about are in the larger slides which also can have it.

I've had no problem with my small BR slide. The problems I've read about on this forum were concerning the Schwintek large slides getting out of sync or failing. My particular concern with them is how to get the slide in if something electrical fails. They're a bit harder to get in manually than other brands and types of slides.

Chances are pretty good that you'll never have a problem, I'm just anal about making sure I know what to do if a failure occurs.

No problems in the two years we've had our Eagle, except the switch. Seems my wife cannot tell the difference between it and the one for the awning. The other day she was wanting to bring the awning in and just a rapid clicking sound. She told me the awning wasn't working. I asked her to try putting it out, and the side started to move.
She claims that'll never happen again but last season I covered the slide switch with paper, so it continues.

There are You Tube videos that describe how to push them in manually.

Bought 2014 Eagle 318 RETS A couple of years ago. All 3 slides malfunctioned. Took about a month to get parts and repairs.

Thumbs up

I've had mine for just over 2 years - full-timing in it for a year & 7 months. I love everything about it, but especially the interior height! Sidewalls 6'' taller than most, plus the arched roof/ceiling make the inside "feel" much larger. I've not had a bit of trouble with my slide.

We just found out why our slides are so subject to cold/hot air leaks. It is a 2018 Eagle with two slides and the seals are, 1. not long enough, 2. not wide enough. These were installed and do not do the job. We bought the unit used but it had not been used so no one knew that there was a problem until I called for slide Maintenance, Lube, etc and the Tech found the incorrect weather stripping installed. I contacted Jayco and they have refused to even consider taking a part in this repair. Automobile Manufacturers must recall a unit if it was not assembled correctly. I think Congress should do the same thing for this Vehicle, or perhaps there is such a law somewhere that would make Jayco stand up to this problem. This is just gross negligence and should be corrected by the Manufacturer. WHAT DO YOU THINK?

I have 2016 Eagle 317RLOK bought new from a dealer. The 'Rainier' tires were a complete joke. The 'Schwintek' large slide (ie: Nordcold 12cuft frig, Oven, Microwave, 2 seater lounge seat) is completely uncalled for on this heavy of a slide. Had it completely replaced under warranty (after 5 or 6 outings). Now stuck in Myrtle Beach because of this slide again. Will not properly got out all the way or in all the way.
Otherwise, I love my fifthwheel.

I definitely think Jayco should get involved. I know first hand what this feels like. Good luck to you.

We have a 16 317rlok also and are having problems with the large kitchen slide also. I found it best to put the controller in manual mode and bypass the sync problem. That will allow the slide to come in.
