It's a large solar panel!! It's a little warmer under the awning when the sun is on it.

I'm not going to be a happy camper if I get a black awning on the unit I have on order. In Az that black awning will last about a month the sun will kill it. Really stupid of them if the awning is totally black. Even an awning cover in black will wreck havoc on a vinyl awning. Even black rails, in the sun will reach upwards of 150 - 180 degrees in summer...really Jayco ? Ever been out of Indiana ?

I had similar concerns about the black awning and trim that wags999 had. The desert heat will bake those dark surfaces big time. I would have preferred ours to be all white, but it's not a deal breaker.

Our 2015 28BHBE JayFlight was manufactured August 4th 2014 and it has white trim.
It's a beautiful unit and we love it. Very comfortable.

Even more loony to me, is they put a Black cover on the propane tanks... geesh, really ? I dare say you won't be able to touch the tank knobs by noon on a typical summer day, hell we drive with oven mitts on, and thats in a white TV... can they really be that naive? or is it just stupidity ?

That's a very good point. One time I left a newly filled propane tank out in the sun. It absorbed enough solar heat to cause it to vent violently through it's pressure safety valve. A black cover will magnify this effect and likely in close proximity to a campfire too.

It seems to me that they should have this as an option. I definitely recognize the issues people will have in hot climates. I'm not sure what the motivation behind the color change was but you would have had to think they would have thought of these things. I'll be the first to tell you that I like the black over the white but that's just my opinion from a purely aesthetics standpoint. From a functional standpoint the white makes sense across the board. We will have to see.

I was under the impression that the awnings were white, even with the black trim. I was at the Dulles, VA RV show last month and talked to a Jayco rep. He assured me that the awning was indeed white.

I don't recall what the propane covers looked like, I would expect to remember if they were black too. I think the black looks cool... but it seems pretty interesting to have a black awning and black propane covers...

I just got pictures of the new awing from my RV dealer. The awnings are black and dark grey strips on top, white on the bottom. I wrote him a long email regarding black and problems associated with black and he forwarded it to the Jayco rep, the Jayco rep forwarded it to the factory. I will let you know if I get a response.

Doing some research on propane, the NFPA (National Fire Protection Agency) requires all propane tanks be painted in a heat reflecting color. I doubt they would think enclosing a tank, or two tanks, in a black cover would be prudent. Temperatures in vehicles typically can hit 150 degrees inside within minutes. I would dare say 150 to 175 inside the dark covers would not be unusual.

Sometimes designers choose items for esthetic rather than practical purposes. This is where engineers, specification folks need to step in and "assist" them in making appropriate choices, I have done it 100's of times for products I represented.

I hope they see the potential for liability and at least offer choices...

It's the Amish Mafia making the decision of which trim to use. We don't have a chance...

I picked up our new 32 IBTS today... Fiberglass option.. Black trim.. Black awning with grey stripes and black propane tank cover...

It was built at the end of January.

I wasn't too thrilled with the black awning but hadn't even thought about the issues with a black propane tank cover... hmmmm

While not in AZ.. Texas gets plenty warm. Glad I got 2 AC units..

I don't hate black as a color, just seems it's not the best choice for everyone and every situation. Doesn't seem to be well thought out by Jayco. And why would they make changes mid stream if it's not due to not being able to get the original product? I would think once a model is designed and announced they would keep that design until a new model year is announced. I await their reply.

I am changing our tank covers out in the spring to the white one. I also thought using black over the tanks was not a bright idea. I could envision relief valves popping on the tanks under the black covers.

The Black trim does look good but I couldn't imagine for the life of me why the would put a black awning on a product that is used in the SUMMER and primarily in the south under that big orange thing in the sky !!!! Just MHO
