Jayco Mattresses

Just bought a Jay Flight sls 212qbw. Like everything fine, has everything my wife and I need in a small trailer.

The problem is, it has the worst mattress I've ever tried to sleep on. The label says "Simmons residential sleep system, made exclusively for Jayco."

We've camped in it for a total of 8 nights since we bought it about a month ago and its already got holes on both sides where we lay. My wife refuses to sleep on it so we're going to have to shop for a new mattress.

Has anyone else had this problem?

My wife and I just bought a 175rd and have quickly realized the mattress isn't great. Sometimes I enjoy sleeping on my side. The supplied 3" thick mattress just doesn't allow for that...

We sleep a total of one night on our new mattress and bought a memory foam topper the next day. Works great for us.

Seems that almost all manufacturers of RVs, or at least travel trailers, have a surplus of burlap bags and bails of hay... ... so they stuff the bags, sew them up and call them mattresses... ... Oddly, we sold a SOB trailer that actually had a decent mattress. With a 3" memory foam pad added, it slept better than our home setup. We thought that surely Jayco would use at least as good a mattress, but no. We ordered a Perfect Cloud from Amazon. Pricey, but now we can actually sleep in the camper. After 1 night, the factory mattress went to Goodwill. Your beds may be 74" (RV Queen) mattresses. Ours was a full 80" Queen so it was easy to replace.

Good luck!

Our old Jayco popup had a 4 inch foam mattress. Beat the heck out of our 195RB mattress.

We are looking at memory foam mattresses. Not made up our mind yet on which one

Not sure if the 195RB "mattress" actually qualifies as a mattress. We added a 3-inch Beautyrest Sculpted Gel Memory Foam topper along with a washable padded mattress cover and that fixed the issue for us. If you have trouble finding a good quality topper in the shorter "RV" Queen size just get a regular Queen size and trim a few inches off the bottom. A lot better selection to choose from then.

Many threads here regarding the mattresses Jayco provides. The general consensus is almost unanimous. They suck.

X2 on "They suck". The mattress that came in my Designer was so bad my niece's dogs would even get on it when I gave it to her. I ended up burning it and it didn't even burn well.

I have a Sleep Number RV Radius King now and it is great. Just short of 7 years full time.

We went the memory foam topper route after the very first weekend and it at least made things bearable. After a while, we realized the adage that "you can't polish pig iron" holds true and have purchased a quality residential mattress for this year. Looking forward to a good night's sleep!

Nearly everyone dislikes the oem mattresses. Jayco buys them in bulk from China. China refurbishes them at the end of their useful life in their re-education camps. Little known fact. You're welcome.

Jayco Mattresses

We managed to get through our 1st season last year with the Denver Residential short queen mattress that came with our 2016 Jay Flight 26BH Elite. Now that we are getting ready to start our 2nd season, wifey and I agree that the Denver mattress has to go!

We just ordered this today as a replacement, going to be about 4" thicker and 2" longer:

Seems like it has great reviews, if anyone else has one of these Perfect Cloud foam mattresses, I'd love to hear your feedback on it.

We went with a Brentwood Home 11" memory gel. Available on Amazon or directly from Brentwoodhome.com made in the USA. 120 night trail. 25 year warranty. Free shipping/return . We liked it so much, I bought another for my nightly sleeper at home. They have them on sale occasionally. They have all sizes including RV shorts. The RV short queen is on sale right now for $410 They're also available in different thicknesses including a 10" and 13" versions.

Lousy mattresses are not limited to Jayco. Our Palomino Puma30RKSS came with a 3 inch fluff filled poor excuse for a mattress. We quickly ordered a 10 inch gel foam RV Queen mattress from Amazon. Was the best thing we did. Unfortunately, we are trading it in for an Eagle HT FW...

Will a traditional Queen work? We are considering a 287BHSW

You'd have to measure. Many Jayco's come with standard residential size mattresses. Our 38fdds came with a standard size queen. Depending on the bed setup, I think you could probably replace an RV short with a standard size on many Jayco models. If I remember correctly, I think the only difference between a short queen and a standard queen is that the standard queen is 5 inches longer . I believe the width is the same. You also need to take the height of the mattress into account on some Jayco models.

I think it will be a little to tight to walk around the bed with a full size queen mattress. Below is the space your looking at in the 287BHSW with the short queen which is very similar to my 26BH. You would have to pretty much crawl over the bed to get to the other side or squeeze your way past the end of the bed. The plywood would also be too short and would need to be extended. Another thing to consider is the at the head of the bed, the front wall curves back, so the thicker the mattress the more it will be pushed back because of the curve of the front wall. It won't be much but still have to consider. Our Denver mattress is about 6" thick.

Even the short queen I ordered this morning is about 1-2" longer than the Denver mattress that came with our TT. It is also 4" thicker.

All the best,

Duke

My only problem with my Jayco TT is getting the fitted sheet on... man is it tight in the bedroom area! It was easier with the OEM mattress but like I said, it got chunked after just one night.
