Jayco Skylark 21 Sway control
We just purchased a 2012 Skylark and we love it. The first trip we took I had no trouble with sway. Just recently we took a shorter trip and I had tremendous sway.
Is there any way to control the sway?

I have a 2012 Skylark FKV I have a equalizer WDH I like it a lot controls the sway. Even with a short wheel base Jeep the set up feels solid and controlled.

I have no real weight distribution system. I'm towing with a Ford F-150, 6 cylinder, 4.2L engine. Also, don't have any sway control system.
Biker crd. Who is the manuf of the equalizer you're using?

Thanks Diane/Jeffrey. My next question for anyone, is a Reese Pro-series PS49903 WD/sway control adequate for the Skylark? Its ratings are 750 to 1000 lbs tongue and 10000 GTW. Anybody????

Another question, does anyone tow with sway control only? It doesn't appear I have a WD problem (towing with my F-150).

You already towed the TT without a sway problem, and then on your second tow had a problem, Most likely the TT didn't have enough weight on the tongue, and had too much weight rear of the axle. In other words, it was "back end heavy". There should be 10% to 15% of total weight on the tongue. Try loading the cargo with more weight up front and I'm sure you will see a difference. I have a Skylark and experienced sway problems between 55-60 mph. I installed a Reese Friction Sway control and no more problems. Cost is about $55 and is an easy DIY install on the trailer, but you will need a weld shop to add the sway ball on your ball bracket. We tow with a 2012 Honda Pilot 6 cyl and get between 10 and 14 mpg depending upon speed and terrain towing the Skylark. We previously towed it with a Mazda Tribute, but teh small fuel tank meant you were stopping every 1-1/2 hours for fuel.

I have a Skylark FKV with 410 Lbs. of tongue weight when tt is loaded pulled by a V8 Toyota 4 Runner/with air suspension, a Reese 66151 WDH and a friction sway control on the side. Though the sway control was really not needed the passing large trucks made a small side push, high winds had some effect on stability and curving roads with dips and dives slightly created or changed how firm the trailer behaved. Because of the light weight of the trailer seems the friction bars on the 66151 WDH do not create a lot of friction for resistance. The added sway bar with a light friction setting makes the trailer even more steady.
Food for thought for Skylark owners.

Having towed my 2011 Skylark FKV across country twice now (the first without sway control), I experienced much less sway after installing a Reese RP66151 weight distribution system with integral sway control prior to the second trip. However, "boatbuilder" is correct: the distribution of your cargo and the impact on tongue weight is important to properly setting up your tow vehicle/trailer for successful and happy towing. If you choose to install the kit, be careful when you torque the pad hangers onto your trailer frame - you will not be able to achieve the recommended torque before you begin to crush the trailer frame, which is made of aluminum.
