jayco swift 185 rb converter fan not coming on

We purchased our 2014 185 rb last summer and love it. This year we have had a problem that the dealer, or ourselves cannot figure out. We go to the same campground every year, last year everything worked fantastic as you would expect a new trailer should. This year, our 12 volt switch on the tongue shorted out and had to be replaced before we ever started camping. Since then, our refridgerator will not cool if ac is running......and the ac doesn't seem to be getting as cold as it did last year either. We took it to the dealer and they checked the fridge and found nothing wrong with it. We brought it home and tested it, and it worked fine. We have went on 2 trips since then and the fridge will not cool. We just returned home from a 3 day trip and the fridge would not cool, but it was then we realized 2 things.......1. the ac was not running when tested at the dealer, or our home, and 2. the converter fan usually comes on if you turn on an overhead light and it has not come on since the faulty 12 volt switch on the tongue was replaced. Could there be a connection to our fridge problem? Our trailer is in storage at the lake, so we cannot take it back to the dealer right now (but will because it is under warranty) but just wondered if anyone has any ideas about this problem, or have experienced the same issue. One last thing.....we notice an excessive amount of heat coming out of the furnace vent too.....(converter is directly below furnace) which did not happen last year either. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

All could be a result of a low voltage issue at the campground. Check the receptacle and the wiring for a loose connection. Frequently used 30 amp plugs have been know to get loose and cause problems.

That was our first thought too, but we have camped in 3 different sites at the campground and have had the same problem everytime and nobody but us is having the problem. That's why this has been so aggravating for us to figure out, it seems to only be our trailer having the problem. Thanks for your reply

Sounds like it maybe a converter/charger issue and/or a fan motor issue. As far as the fridge, it's circuit board operates via 12V...., not sure if a bad converter/charger would effect it's operation

It's amystery for sure......the fridge works fine, if the ac is not running. There is some connection there, just not sure what it is and how it is all related. This past trip, the freezer worked well enough to freeze ice, but the fridge part stayed at around 60-65 degrees??? It's very frustrating to have a new trailer that worked like a new one and then this year, it won't......but there is bound to be a reason for it and hopefully will be found soon! My understanding about the RV fridge operation is that it will cool the freezer first, then the main fridge area follows ...., and that I would assume is controlled by the circuit board...... just don't know how the A/C figures in.

I found this post here on the owners group that might explain our problem.....going to ask our dealer to look into this as soon as we bring our trailer back home from the lake and see what they say......

I have a 185RB, and in the beginning I had nothing but problems with the refer cooling fine and then warming up so I have been down this road. Are you using the AC in the trailer? We found out that when the AC was on it would cause a vacuum inside the trailer, then over a matter of a couple of hours the AC would suck all the cold air out of the refer, but the freezer would be just fine, it was so strong of a vacuum that it would even pull the heat from the back of the refer that is supposed to be outside the trailer.

Norcold replaced the refer with an updated model. It has a reinforced door so that it can't be sucked open from the AC, they put a fan on the back of the refer then finally put insulation around the sides of the refer in the back, behind the refer.

We have had no problems since then, I can keep the refer setting on 3 and freeze meet solid in the refer, milk and pop are ice cold.

I would take it back to the deal and have them call Norcold. Keep pushing the deal if he will not help, call Norcold call Jayco tell them that you are not happy and you know of the recall.

Should have asked this earlier. Are you running the fridge on gas or elec? If you have the problem while on elec switch to gas and see what happens. If it only happens on elec then I would check the connections in the trailer's breaker box. You could have a loose connection there.

We only use electric to run the fridge.....the dealer checked all the connections and they were good. We are thinking now, after talking to another 185 rb owner, that it may have to do with the a/c through the wall, and it being a window unit that is not designed to be mounted in the wall.........will discuss with the dealer and see what we find out. Appreciate all the replies and help!
