To answer the original question. I put a set of Camco self closing door springs on the screen door which closes both when they are attached or screen door when not. I also did the plexi glass mod to the screen so I don't need to close the heavy solid door.

You're right CampingCouple a solution is needed. I would go to Lowes or HD and get the smallest pneumatic door closer they had.....you would want one that was adjustable to keep from springing the screen door frame. That should solve the problem.

Wow, quite the thread discussion. As Grandparents, we treat the grandkids the same as we did raising our own.
Nuff said! Let's go Rving instead.

I do not have the issue. I may have to remind once in a while. My thought, if I start to get frustrated with some act. Then there are consquenses, which might mean extra chores, or the loss of something for a while. Typicically it fixes the repeating issue very quickly.

So in case anyone was curious I did fix this problem with one of the above referenced Camco springs. For $5 off of Amazon it installed easily and works perfectly both with the screen door and the RV door together.

Wow, what an interesting discussion. I am almost 34 years old and learned life lessons the stubborn way. I got my butt swatted on an almost daily basis... but I am fairly certain I earned each and every whopping I got!

I'm not sure about an automatic solution, but the BEST solution is effective discipline of some kind. Whether you are a spanker or a talker, you need to find a method that works.

I'm not sure how I will handle it, but the day is coming near. My 21 month old is really liking doorknobs at home and can almost reach the camper latch. My solution will be to lock the door. After breakfast we are outside unless its nap time. Lunch and dinner are eaten outside unless its raining. Bedtime I will unlock the door and escort her inside.

My bride understands the concept of closing doors, so she will have a key too.

I yell at my kids for slamming the door.

I put a spring on the screen door to keep it moving towards the closed position. Also if you leave your door side wheels up a tad higher than the drivers side wheels you'll have gravity on your side. This also has the added benefit of helping your roof drain. I really don't give a rip as long as the screen door is closed. $28 bucks a night and bottomless electricity.

That's a great idea! And here I have been so worried about keeping the thing perfectly level. If ya think about it, the same principle applies to your home fridge!

When I took the grandsons the last long weekend had then for 7 days, They did pretty good for the first time in a trailer.
If you do not want the bugs bugging you at night while you are sleeping ,Then keep the door closed
But one of them, Not sure which one. decided to peal the foam on the handle going in to the trailer.
So now need to get some new foam on it.
They are used to living in an apartment, So I had to encourage them to get outside and play, even eat outside.
over all they did very good had lots of fun with them.

3 kids, ages 3,2,1

They all know how to shut the doors, older two can open the camper doors as well

The one year old gets instructed to close the door, the two year old gets reminded and the three year old is expected to close the door.

Our kids are given freedom to be kids, but they know our expectations and they know there will be consequences. Spankings, loss of privileges, time outs are all just tools for proper parenting. Each situation calls for a different consequence

Anyone who rules out discipline methods is doing themselves and there children a disservice.
