Leatherette or cloth couch and benches?

We are close to ordering a Jayfeather 23RLSW and have a choice of leatherette material for the sofa and benches or cloth. Any thoughts? The leatherette looks easy to keep clean but does it hold up?

We love the leatherette in our 2016 White hawk 27DSRL - so much easier to keep clean. Can't speak to longevity as only had it about 6 months but previously had cloth and it did soil much easier.

We had leatherette in our WH and it still looked brand new after two years of use, by us and the dog (initially as a 4 month old puppy). As Herzog noted, it's easy to keep clean.

Our Eagle furniture has a suede like finish on it and it's much more difficult to keep clean, especially with two dogs on it. It too has held up well so far.

I'd say it depends on how you will use it.
As some others have said, if you have animals or if you do a lot of getting filthy when outside, then leatherette is likely a no brainer.
On the other hand, if you stay pretty clean when outdoors the cloth may be the way to go. Personally we prefer the feel of cloth, but of course everyone has different tastes/preferences.

Our leatherette (aka 'pleather') has held up well. Two dogs, one big, one small, on and off it all the time. Easy to keep clean and has held up very well; no marks from toenails.

I prefer the cloth. It's just more comfortable to me and you don't slide off of it. We actually removed a leather sofa and installed a cloth one.

We have letherette in ours, looks brand new (not that it shouldn't being this new still) but our 2 large dogs and 14 year old daughter haven't damaged it yet.

I am a little paranoid about 'piercing' damage, but nobody has stuck a ball point pen, or a dog claw through any of if yet.

Personal preference I would say. I prefer cloth for comfort reasons as already stated. Both look nice and I expect they both last about the same too.

We are ordering our White Hawk with Canyon Cloth. We take two cats camping and we think the leatherette wouldn't take their claws too well. We have cloth in our current TT and staining, clean up etc. has not been an issue (we also have 2 boys 7 and 8 Y/O).

We moved to leather/ leatherette in our SB house years before we started RVing because of kids and pets. They have always held up well too.

Thank you everyone for the feedback. It will mainly be adults using the camper. The dealer has one with the leatherette on the lot. I prefer the cloth but we'll have to see what difference the price is between ordering one and buying off the lot.

I have leatherette in my WH, I would get cloth instead since I've found leatherette kind of slippery when you sit on it . Feel like your slipping forward all the time

Cloth all the way.
When we got newest trailer last year, we didn't take the one off the lot which was "pleather" and waited for one to be ordered in cloth. If I'm going to sit on leather I'm going to sit on the real stuff. The leatherette is cold, slippery and I find it uncomfortable. Since we were going to use the couch for our youngest (still at home) to sleep on, the cloth would be more comfortable and warmer.

Leatherette or cloth couch and benches?

Trailers tend to attract dust! The a/c fans and vent fans draw dust and it likes linens. You can dust and wipe leather or pleather whereas cloth needs to be vacuumed and many times you can't rid the dust mites. My first camper was cloth and never went back with one three campers later. Unless you're full timing and need a quality couch, I would go with something that's going to last, but the leather or pleather ones will give you years of use without the allergies.

That is a very good point..

My Coleman popup had the brady bunch 70's style fabric on everything and if you 'punched' on any of the cushions, a Hiroshima sized cloud of funk would become airborn. My Kirby couldn't get it all out... the leatherette is undeniably easier to keep clean.

Are you a hard wood floor guy, or a carpet guy? That's a big part of the pros / cons. Both are cool...

We had the leatherette in out 2013 26 BH. Last year when we sold the trailer the leatherette was cracking and beginning to flak off all over the sofa and arms. On the flip side the bench seats for the dinette were not. Over the years we kept the sofa maintained and kept clean with just wiping with a little soapy water just as we did on the dinette seats.

When we purchased our new trailer we went with the cloth.

We're cloth & carpet people in our camper. I hate walking on cold linoleum in the morning. Where there is linoleum, we have throw rugs down. I keep a small but powerful Hoover vacuum cleaner in the front wardrobe closet. Our 2 large rocker/recliners are cloth as is our couch. Fairly easy to clean with the attachments of the Hoover. When I bought my F-250 I had 4 to choose from and bought the one with cloth seats. Ok, thats enough.

Our rig has a mix of both type materials. After 6 years the cloth shows more wear than the Pleather but they get more wear as they are cushions.

My biggest concern, we have the L shaped couch, is what to do if it ever needs recovering as it is anchored to the floor. More permanent than moveable. I know someone has addressed this but I have never heard of it on a forum.

We have the leatherette in the bhbe. Easy to clean for sure, but too slippery for me. I think our next will be cloth, for comfort. Also, we have had some issues with sunscreen damaging the leatherette material.

We have cloth and linoleum. Cloth for the comfort - warmer when it's cool and cooler when it's hot - and linoleum because it's a snap to sweep anything that comes in with us right back out the door - the threshold even has a little ramp so that it's easy to just sweep dirt right back out into the woods where it came from. We keep the broom right inside the bathroom so it's handy to just swoosh debris out the door. For the way we use the TT, carpet would be a disaster. No way we are going to take off our shoes every time we go in or out (most of the time I only have my Merrell walking/hiking shoes and a pair of flip flops in the camper).

We clean the cushions when we're home with the Rigid shop vac with major league sucking power. That way we don't have to worry about taking a vacuum with us when we go camping. Since we are just campers, not RVers, we have plenty of opportunity to do deep cleaning between trips.
