It's pretty common for people to take their shoes off and considered good etiquette to ask.

We aren't very consistent about doing it ourselves, but we try sometimes. Part of it is keeping the linoleum from getting all scratched up. Get one of those sharp little rocks stuck in your shoe and you can put a nice gouge in your floor. Just my thought on it. Now if I'm going inside and out a lot, I can't be bothered with it.

I guess the culture has changed, but from the 60's to today, I've never been with anyone who even mentioned such a thing. I'm only familiar with camping RVers, not with anyone doing it long term. We feel that our camper is for living in, not for display. We keep it clean (hence the broom right inside the door ), but we aren't anal about it when out in the woods.
