Looking for new camper... Help!

Hi everyone!

We are kicking around the idea of getting a new TT, currently we have a 2013 Keystone Passport 3220BH and before that we had a Forest River Grey Wolf 26BH. Neither of these campers seem to have the build quality of a Jayco.

I seem to be having a bit of trouble finding a camper with our short list of must haves, I didn't think I was that picky...

1. full outside kitchen, not the small "camp kitchen" like our passport
2. bunkhouse
3. fully loaded weight under 10,000 lbs
4. smooth fiberglass sidewalls

Not a must have for me but kinda is for the wife.
5. 26-32' long. shorter the better according to my wife, she thinks our Passport at 35.5' overall is too big. But I would rather have a longer camper with all the options that I would like.

I have been looking at so many campers online lately that I can't keep them straight.

Can anyone point me to a camper that will fit our needs?

Guess the first question is what is your tv?

We have the 32 BHDS and love it, full outdoor kitchen, bunk house, and an entrance directly into the bathroom. But the 32 is a 2500/250+ trailer. Possibly the F150 with the max payload package could do, but is a rare truck.

Not sure if the 27 BHS has the "full kitchen" you are looking for.

All Jay Flights are available with the fiberglass siding. As mentioned, check the White Hawk line as well!

After this season my wife and I are thinking of selling our 2014 Jayco Eagle 314bhds. Our outside kitchen does not have a gas cooktop. Weight is 9995 gvwr. I dont know what you tow with but it is food for thought. We are located in Ohio.

A lot of Jayco's models will fit what you are looking for, however, in order to meet your length desire of 26-32 foot length, you will have to look for models designated in the 27 and under range. Double check them though because even some of the 27's (like the WH 27 BHS (32' 11")) are over 32 feet in length.

Since you have pretty clear ideas on what you want, it is time to visit the showrooms, lots and RV shows to find the floorplan and accessories that [some manufacturer] is building.


In May of 2015, I knew exactly what I wanted. Unfortunately, it didn't exist. By being just a bit open to possibilities, I stumbled upon a near-forgotten unit by the back door of the showroom. The combination of accessories was spot-on. The floorplan was excellent. One or two items classed out as 'livable' because of how well everything else was.


So, look for what you want, be prepared to make a few compromises. You will find it if you keep looking.


Then beat the sales rep up over price!

We have 2 TVs - 2004 F150 FX4 super cab, 6.5' box, 5.4L, 3.73 gears, 68,000 miles and a 2002 F350 super cab, 8' box, dually, 4X4, 7.3L diesel, 4.10 gears, 90,000 miles. The F150 is my "personal" truck and what we use 95% of the time, most of our trips are around 60 miles from home. On longer trips I take the F350, but its a PITA unloading tools/supplys from the bed, loading it for camping, then reloading with tools again once we get home - putting the car seat in/out - ect, for just a quick weekend trip.

So since I use the F150 for towing the camper so much, that is the reason I am limited to a camper GVW of under 10000 lbs.

We just got a jay feather 25bh. It has everything on your list with a gvwr of 6750. We use a 15 Ram 1500 to pull it.

I came very close to buying one of those but just decided I really didn't need the outside kitchen and kitchen slide. To each his own... I'm quite happy with the one I got.

The limiting factor of the F150 will be the trucks payload. Best thing to do is if you have a scale near you, load up the family and anything you anticipate hauling in the truck bed (cooler(s), bikes, firewood, etc) and go weigh the truck. This will tell you the available payload left (trucks gvwr - actual scaled weight) for the wdh and the tt tw (travel trailer tongue weight).

The other limiting factor will probably be your trucks receiver hitch on the 150.

Look at getting a good wdh w/ integrated sway control. The Reese Dual Cam, Reese SC, and the Equal-I-Zer 4 way system are all very good models for the price. The Hensley Arrow and Pro Pride are even better, but have the price tag to go with. The other down side is they are heavy, which eats more payload.

Completely agree with the OP on the Keystone and Forest River products. Understanding that all trailers have build and material issues, we found the Jayco models to be a bit more solid (both in materials and fit/finish). We are satisfied with our Jay Feather 23RBM so far. It is definitely a better product than the units the OP mentioned. Keep us posted on your quest!
