Making sure my weights are ok

Guys, we are so excited. I'm should finalize the paperwork on Monday on a 2013 Jayco Jay Flight 28BHBE. It's weight specs are:
Weights
Unloaded Weight 6,430 lbs.
Dry Weight, Hitch 665 lbs.
GVWR 9,250 lbs.
Cargo Capacity 2,820 lbs.

I have a 2011 F-150 supercrew with the 5.0 v8 and towing package. It's numbers are:
GCWR: 14900
maximum loaded trailor weight of 9400 lbs

I'm good right?

Daryl

Daryl,

IMO it's very possible that you could exceed one (or more) of your TV's specified weight limits........, all depends on your personal loading habits. Please note that most 1/2 tons are limited by their payload capacity which the TT's "loaded" tongue weight and WDH weight is also subtracted from it.

Just some food for thought..........;

* Your F-150's specified weight limits (Tow Rating 9,400lbs, Payload Capacity, etc.) are based on it's "curb weight", which means that passenger weight, manufacture options, and cargo have to be subtracted.

http://www.jaycoowners.com/showthrea...uot-Tow-Rating

* The 28BHBE UVW of 6,430lbs isn't it's ship weight, I would add approximately 400lbs ......., so 6,830lbs on the dealers lot. There will be a yellow sticker on the TT reflecting actual ship weight specifications.

* To reduce guess work, take your F-150 (simulate loaded camping conditions) to a CAT scale and weigh it. Subtract the CAT scale weight from your F-150's specified GVWR (sticker on drivers door)....., the remaining weight is what you have for the TT's loaded tongue weight, WDH weight, plus any other TV weight not accounted for at the CAT scale. On a 30ft TT figure the loaded tongue weight should be 13% to 15% of the TT's loaded weight.

* Also, subtracting the CAT scale weight from your F-150's GCWR of 14,900lbs, the remaining weight is for everything not accounted for at the CAT scale (loaded tongue weight, loaded TT weight, WDH weight, etc.).

* When departing the RV dealership with your new TT, please note that the WDH was adjusted based on unloaded TV/TT conditions, the WDH in most cases will have to be re-adjusted under TV/TT "loaded" conditions.

Once you have your selected TV/TT combination, take the "loaded" combination to the CAT scale to confirm your weights, and the data will also confirm that your WDH has been adjusted correctly (very important).

CAT Scale how to: http://www.jaycoowners.com/showthrea...igh-Your-tt-tv

Hope this helps.

Bob

If you live in the hills, your truck will work hard for its living. Take your truck and trailer to a CAT scale and verify that you are within the limits. Good luck with your new rig!

I have the same combination, a 2012 F150 S'crew 5.0 4x4 XLT, with a 2013 Jay Flight 28BHBE. My 28BHBE sticker says 7068# loaded with full propane tanks. I haven't seen a 28BHBE less than 6900# UW. My truck payload is 1625# minus option weights.

Your 6430# UW is very light, take a look at the yellow sticker inside the door for the actual weight with the options that your trailer has. Plus you'll need to add the battery weight and weight for whatever you are hauling.

FWIW, my truck handles the trailer well, no issues, using an Equalizer brand 10K/1K hitch. We do travel light, with empty tanks, and we buy groceries and such when we get to our destination. She handles the hills fine, but I keep an eye on my trans temps using the dash LCD display.

Having said all of this, I do still need to hit the scales as well.....
