Memory foam pads

Okay getting older, used to sleep on the ground when younger, not so anymore. The current 154BH sleeping mattresses too thin for my old bones. Soon upgrading to 264BHW and concerned this won't be any better (well maybe bit better) so any recommendations regarding either replacing or adding memory foam to bunks or beds??

We ordered mattress foam toppers from Costco. One for the queen murphy bed and one for the bunk. Our trailer will be in soon and we wanted to have them on hand in the event we aren't comfortable with the factory beds (which is highly likely, at our advanced ages. lol).

Do some research online about open cell and closed cell memory foam, the different thicknesses, and densities.

As we got older, our class-B jack-knife couch/bed got harder. First we bought a thin, memory foam, 'egg carton,' topper from Walmart. That helped for a year or so.

Then we bought an open cell, 3", high density mattress topper from Amazon. It made the bed in the class-B comfortable. When we receive our Jay Flight, we plan to try it on that bed, too, if it needs it.

3" memory foam for our queen bed. Put it right over the top of the existing Jayco torture rack.

[QUOTE=oldmanAZ;276849]Do some research online about open cell and closed cell memory foam, the different thicknesses, and densities.

And many of them go by weight on the thickness as well , so one 3" foam for $ won't be the same density as another 3" foam for $$ or $$$. You have to read between the lines on memory foam for sale.

I have a 3 inch memory foam topper on my bed and it is now a very comfortable bed...sleep like a baby on it. I got it last year and this winter my wife has made a cover for it and we cut it to fit.

We picked up a 3" memory foam topper for our old trailer - we used the dinette as our full time bed, and put the topper ontop of the regular seat cushions. It was pretty decent and was around $100 in-store at Costco. Plus Costco will take anything back if you don't find it to your liking.

I has issues with the flip out mattresses in our x23b and topped it with one of http://amzn.com/B003IHU9VC (though got queen and don't see it as an option at the moment) and made a world of difference.

I bought a new mattress since a topper didn't give me the support I was looking for.I got it off amazon, its a Dreamfoam Euro top mattress.Since I spend a month or 2 at a time in my trailer for work I needed a good mattress. This one got a lot of good reviews and I am very happy with it,plus for the price it was a good investment

We tried taking my elderly father camping with us a couple of summers ago. We let him have the main bed in our 2013 284BHS. That left us sleeping on the rear bunks. It was quickly apparent, as others have found, how inadequate the mattresses were. After some looking around, I found these Amazon.com 3" memory foam mattress. Since the corner of the bunk mattresses are rounded, I trimmed the foam with an electric carving knife to match the bunk and stuffed the foam into the bunk area. The improvement was HUGE!! Now I'm not a small guy at 6'2" and 250ish lbs. and I even find the double mattresses now quite tolerable.

Unfortunately we found that my dad was not able to handle camping as well as we hoped. But it was worth the try.

At home, use a TEMPUR-PEDIC, so we love the memory foam. After our first 3 shake-down trips on our Denver-top mattress (ouch), we bought a standard Queen topper from Costco (store, not online where there are more choices). So glad we did for two reasons: [1] Much more comfortable and [2] It extended our Queen-short to a standard Queen (our Jayco has the entertainment center at the foot of the bed and the topper efficiently used that wasted few inches ~ sheets now fit better too).

I've posted this before, but I'm so pleased with the results, I like boasting about how comfortable my bed is. At the suggestion of another JOF member's post (sorry, I don't remember whom), I put my Target 3" memory foam topper under my mattress - kind of like a box spring. My Denver mattress is not the pillow-top Jayco now uses, so I also use a 1" thick corrugated foam mattress topper on top of the bed. I've found this to be the perfect combination of a luxurious, cushy surface, with semi-firm support underneath. And my butt doesn't bottom out on the plywood bed support. The backaches that awakened me every morning from the mattress in my stick-and-bricks, disappeared within a week, once I move into the trailer full time.

I sleep like a baby, and the dog seems to like it, too!
