Mice in the House!!

Well, I made the ultimate mistake when storing my TT last fall, and left it outside in a dealers field. Of course mice got in through a hole in the kitchen floor where the water tanks hoses come in to the pump etc. but thankfully did little damage. The hole is about 3 inches in diameter minus the tank fill hose and one to the water pump. What is the best way to cover or fill the hole to seal it from the little critters? Are there any tried and true ways to keep them out. I'm going back to my inside storage this year,--- no doubt. Thanks

Steel wool. Mice hate that. You could try expanding foam sealer too. I now have the thermal package with makes it hard to keep them out in my opinion. Without it, its easier to see possible entry points and you can deal with them. I lost both air mattresses to mice because I left them in like a jerk over the winter..

My brother in law uses bars of Ivory soap unwrapped and bounce sheets in every nook and cranny he can put them in while storing. He has yet to have any problems for the past few years. Apparently they don't like the smell. He has them all hidden, so you would never see it unless you start opening up storage compartments etc.. but it seems to be working

I have heard the Bounce Sheets work well, but we always place fresh bay leaves in the trailer and have never had mice - they apparently don't like that smell either.

We use Irish spring soap. DW puts some in the bath, under the kitchen sink, and any where you think they might enter. Just open the box and place it.
It has worked for us for several years.

I had mice earlier this year and declared war on them. Conventional mouse traps got three. I also used the expanding foam in one area they were chewing and using to crawl up from the bottom. (The instructions on the can says to use disposable gloves when using the product. They aren't kidding.) I realize you can't plug all the holes put I sprayed the obvious ones.

After much reading here and other places I decided to try peppermint oil. I put foil squares down to keep it from possibly staining and then liberally applied the oil to cotton pads. Worked like a charm and haven't seen any evidence since.

And it keeps the camper minty fresh.

Steel wool will rust pretty quickly. Buy one of those copper pot scrubbers, fill the hole with the scrubber and then poke the expanding foam nozzle int the mesh and fill the mesh with foam. It will seal the hole from weather and from the critters.

Would the expanding foam not damage the RV due to the expanding nature of the stuff? I've read where you need to be careful with the expanding foam as it can bend window frames, etc., when used in houses.

You get the low expanding type.. I use steel wool then add the expanding foam. Bounce dryer sheets don't work. My buddy used them in his RV.. he put 30 throughout his RV, the mice used it as TP. It took him 2 weeks to get it all cleaned up..

Interesting thread! Although I just got my TT and have had no problems with rodents thus far, I read about the bounce fabric softener in this forum and placed several sheets inside. I'll try the Ivory soap too. This forum is a great place for rookies like myself.

Is this an example of what is sealed up against the critters??
