Microwave power on battery

I think our microwave is wired incorrectly.
I notice the time still displays even when main camper power is off. I didn't try running it while on battery only.
Does that sound right?

Not sure what you mean by "main camper power is off". Is it unplugged from commercial power? The Microwave is plugged into a 120v power source. (Assuming your trailer is stock and not fed by inverted power from a bank of batteries.)

When the camper is not plugged into an electric source and the battery disconnect switch is off the microwave was still displaying the time.

Camper doesn't have an inverter that I know of. Only 1 battery by propane tank. The area that would hold several batteries is empty.

Could be the microwave clock has a battery backup, similar to a clock radio?
I always thought that would be a great help...

Likely, the micro is an RV specific unit that has a small battery to get by a few hours/days. If you leave the unit unhooked from 110V long enough, your clock will die out. The micro will not work itself on 12V.

Open the microwave door. Does the light come on? If not, the clock has a battery. If yes, perhaps your TT has a mysterious source of perpetual AC power? Patent it. We all want some...

You should have a user's manual for the microwave if you bought the trailer new. Check that. Also, just unplug your microwave from the outlet, and see if the display remains on. If so, it has to have a battery backup.

Have not heard of this set up, but its possible the micro W has a 12v connections to power the clock [only]. If that is the case you will have a different problem. The radio on most TTs is wired so that the power is always on to the unit, thus the face remains lit up even when the radio is turned off. Left this way it will run you house battery down fairly quickly if the RV is not plugged into power while in storage. A 12v feed to the microwave clock would drain the house battery over time. Temporarily disconnect the house battery and see if the clock goes blank.

OP noted that the 120v power was disconnected, and the 12v power was off. Hence, the microwave must have a battery for the clock......

OP What is the brand/model # of your microwave? If it has a battery backup I would be interested in getting one the next time my microwave dies. Pain to always set the clock after each drive.

Wondering if really true????? Wouldn't you believe that if new MW's were coming out with a battery backup others on the forum would be familiar with the option? I'll believe it when others on here step forward to confirm.
