Mile 918 to Mile Zero of Alaska Hwy

We have the first big leg of our trip behind us. Down the Alaska Hwy, heading for warmer climates in BC.

Our F-150 towed the trailer up and down a ton of steep mountains (8-9% grade) with no problems whatsoever. Our best MPG was 14 and the worst was 12 -- not bad considering we only get about 19 when we are not towing! LOL The 5.4 Triton did the job! Paying $1.93 per litre at one place (or $9 per US gallon) was heart stopping, but that was at a place in the middle of nowhere -- when they know you have no choice but to gas up if you are RVing. Otherwise, the prices were not too bad.

With this being our first longer trip, we have learned a few tricks -- like to empty your tanks from the night before before you park so you don't have to do it in the morning when you are in a hurry. Leave early and arrive mid to late afternoon so you get a good spot and can relax. The first night we arrived at 6:30 and by the time we got settled, got the dog walked and dinner on the table it was 9PM!

Lastly, every couple of days you need to stop and spend two nights in one place. It's amazing how good that feels.

I'm sure we'll pick up some more good tips and habits along the way. The tough one to break will be getting into the drinks at 3PM! hahaha

Loving the RV life so far...

$9 a gallon...nothing like a good gouging while you're on vacation! Sounds like you're having fun though.
