Just went out to the trailer to do some work and it was a little warm inside. I keep it connected to shore power and the A/C on. Started troubleshooting and found a junction box in the ceiling unit. Inside the "neutral" white wire nut was burned completely up and the hot wire nut next to it had a serious melt down.
Cut the wires back and reconnected with new wire nuts and all now works fine. It appears that when the neutral was connected at the factory (or dealer) it was done improperly and the nut was actually screwed on the solid supply wire and the stranded wire to the compressor was basically just stuffed into the nut. Additionally, both hot and neutral wires looked to be pretty corroded. Lot of heat was generated by the high resistance connection. Could have started a fire. Did cause some smoke but it looks like it was confined to the junction box.
This is a new 22FB I just picked up about 6 weeks ago and the air has pretty much been running since I bought it.
I think my project for Thursday will be to go thru all the connections in the trailer and check them for security and proper make up.
