Hello, 202Acadia -- I'm curious about your gas mileage. I'm pulling a White Hawk 27DSRL with a 2012 F150 FX4 with Ecoboost, 4X4, 3.73, getting about 9.5 mpg. I think maybe gear ratio is hurting the mpg.

You might be able to get better gas mileage with a bigger truck but at what cost?
How much will you spend to save how much?

Well, IMHO your tow vehicle is the limiting factor. I bought a 2008 Toyota 4Runner last year thinking this would be my tow vehicle if I ever decided to upgrade to a TT. After researching extensively, the short wheel base of the SUV strictly limits the length of TT you can pull. Based on a 110" wheelbase, my research indicated 21ft was absolutely the longest I could pull, but smaller would be safer. Also, you have to look at your TV GVWR. A lot of the SUV's only have about 1200lbs for cargo. So, once you add fuel, tongue weight, passenger weight and anything you carry in the TV, you're over your limit. Additionally, you only want to tow 75% of rated value. I ended up with a Feather 165 Sport that is about 16', 2850 curb weight, 3500 loaded. With a WDH, I feel pretty stabile and it tows well. If you don't like a truck, I had good luck with a Chevy conversion van V-8. What ever you choose, make sure to research the wheel base limits. Kind regards, Doug

Hate pickups? I love my 2010 Ford F150 Lariat extended cab & 6 1/2' bed. I traded a 2001 Cadillac SLS for it. It rides better, is comfortable for passenger and is just as quiet as the caddy. It is just as nicely appointed, has all the goodies and is much more functional i.e., it tows my 26' BHS with ease with my dirt bike in the bed. I can haul lumber, groceries and anything else in the bed that is covered with a Black Flip cover. It has 20" wheels and is every bit as good looking as a Jeep or Durango. The truck gets mileage typical of your other choices and will hold its value better.
