Negotiate the Rv dealers price?

Hi,
We are considering a purchase of a new Jayco trailer, the dealer has given us a price on the phone and we are going to see him on Monday.
My question is; can we negotiate the price down or is this not done in the RV world?
My husband loves to negotiate a deal but I'm not so sure.

Generally speaking, you can buy most units for about 30% off of MSRP. Its like anything else. If it has set on the lot for a while and the dealer is paying interest, they are very interested in talking. Most folks can buy in the 25 to 30% range off of MSRP has been my experience.

RVs are definitely negotiable. The MSRP is a huge joke.

And, when you cannot get the actual price down any lower and if you are close to something you can agree to, then you can negotiate for add-ons. For example, at that point we requested an allowance in the dealer's RV supply store and had them install a slide-out topper.

You can also get a quote from one of the big Internet RV dealers. RV Direct is one but there are several others, too. If you are close to one of their dealerships, that may be an option. At least it provides another price for comparison and leverage.

When they said they could not go lower I said ok take the TV, the bumper grill, etc off since they are crap. They came back with a lower price including those we got 31.8 percent off

32% off is a good price... just make sure that its 32% off JAYCO'S MSRP, not just some random number the dealer came up with. If you go to the JAyco website you can configure the camper with whatever options and it will give you the real MSRP. If you are getting 32% off that number, you are doing okay.


I got a quote from RVDirect that was 36% off MSRP. I took that to a local dealer and he came within $300 of the RVDirect quote and saved me a long drive out of state to pick it up. I was happy with that even though it wasn't the absolute best possible price.


At the end of the day, if you are comfortable with the price and have confidence with the dealer than its a good deal. Saving $1000 with a crappy dealer or a long drive to the dealer for issues may not end up being that big of a savings in the long run.

Just an update, they gave us 29% off their MSRP and would not move a dime on that price. Nothing; but we thought it was still a good little trailer (SLX 195RB) and there is no sales tax in Montana which is a nice perk.
We are looking forward to picking it up on Saturday and have two trips planned in the Seely-Swans... :-)

Looks like you did pretty good on that deal, provided of course their MSRP is the same as Jayco`s. which can be found in the link below using the site`s "build and price" feature.

We got right at 31.5% off MSRP on our 33rlds which is awesome, it brought our cost down enough I felt good about adding the extended warranty. 6 year bumper to bumper is good to have.

I checked the Jayco site and we were within $250 of their pricing. It was a smaller unit so they may not have had as much wiggle room on it as on a larger unit. Also it's at the beginning of the season on a very popular model so they had little to lose if we walked. My husband prides himself on negotiating a better price but he couldn't make it work this time. :-)

Last September I got a quote from RV Direct for the exact Eagle we wanted. Went to Camping World in Kingston NY. Within about 10 minutes they met the RV Direct quote right to the penny. They placed the order with Jayco and we had our TT in about 6 weeks.

Any rv is negotiable. I got mine 46% off msrp...30% should be the min amount off msrp IMO

Last month we placed our order for a 2016 26BH through RVDirect in Albany. Our price CTO was 42% below Jayco's 2015 MSRP. Happy with the price. Now the wait begins. They tell me the end of July for delivery and we booked a site in the grandkids favorite park for the end of August. Hoping that's enough of a cushion. Now all I need to do is sell my PUP. Oh well, one day at a time.

I got 34% off my 2016 JayFlight 23MBH. I don't think I could have done any better since it was an order. Off the lot I feel like I could have pushed 40%.

I just negotiated on a 2016 26BH ordered from the factory. I am in Toronto, Canada so exchange rate plays a factor, but I figure that I ended up at about 32% below US$ MSRP from the Jayco website, and about CAD$500 more than buying from RV Direct in Buffalo (after adding on all of the cross border paperwork and inspection charges) for exact same package.

Somebody help me here. Just reading this it says to me that the OP paid essentially MSRP. Hope I'm wrong. But when I check configure and pricing on Jayco's site, I come up the MSRP. If they were quoted MSRP minus 250, who knows, maybe plus 250, the husband was right not to walk. He should have sprinted! I've go to be misreading this.

No you have to combine it previous post and previous question. They got 29% off what the deal said was MSRP. MSRP on Jayco's site was within 250 of dealer quoted MSRP.
