New 264BH for us!

We purchased a 2014 264BH the other day, and couldn't be more excited. Our dealer (Lone Star RV in Houston) is installing the extras we ordered now, and we'll be picking it up in a few days. Our first trip will be to the Mount Rushmore area, and we're planning be be on the road for about two weeks. We plan to do a "test" day or two near our home in the Houston area before we leave to make sure we know how to operate everything. If we pass our "test", we'll be hitting the road in a few weeks. We're moving up from a 16ft. TT from another manufacturer, and are amazed at how much more storage there is.
Our TV is a 2002 Yukon with a 5.3L engine and the factory towing package. We're also having a weight distribution hitch installed.
Please let us know of any "gotta see" areas that we won't want to miss, and any tips for the trip would be appreciated.

I would suggest you make your reservations to get a spot, being you are coming from so far. Do you want hookups or not. We stayed in Custer State Park but we did not have hookups at the time. Rafter J in Hill City has hookups and is a nice park. Someone also mentioned Sylvan Lake which is beautiful.

My brother suggested we see the Cosmos. I am glad we did it was really amazing. My DH is an engineer so it was fun to see his expressions. DD also enjoyed it also. http://cosmosmysteryarea.com/

We love the Mt Rushmore area. As far as Mt Rushmore, try to get there before sundown. They do an amazing laser show with patriotic music. They have plenty of areas to park so that is not an issue. You pay for parking but entrance to the monument is free.

Enjoy your road trip. Ours is over for this summer, school starts in 2 weeks.

We have a 264bh and love it. Only problem I have with it is that the mattress could be a little better.

We bought a 2013 264BH this spring, taking it out on our 3rd run tomorrow. So far it is awesome! I agree about the mattress being a bit tough....but it sure beats the heck out of the inflatable in the tent we used up until now! If you guys learn any new tricks with the 264 please share, we are still learning the ropes.

Thanks guys! I agree with you about the mattress. That's the only thing my DW didn't care for. We purchased a 3" mattress topper to take care of that little problem. I'm installing a bed lift kit to make getting to the storage area easier too. We're also making a few more small mods: 12 volt lights in both the front and rear storage areas, screes on all the exterior vents, a vent cover over the bathroom vent, and a flush system on the black water tank. Now we're about two weeks away from our first trip in it.

My wife and I are in Austin, TX and looking at Jayco trailers. The two we are looking at are the 264BH and 281BHS. Can you give me an idea of what you paid for yours in Houston? I found a quote from RvExpress that was way below what we were originally quoted at the dealership in Austin.

We negotiated with them and after adding an upgrade to the 15K A/C unit, a weight distribution hitch for our vehicle, a flush system for the black tank and TV mounts on the walls, our final price before TT&L was $15,600. I think it has everything else that Jayco offers except the little refrigerator in the rear storage area. We couldn't be more pleased with our dealer, Lone Star RV on I-45 on the north side of Houston. We dealt with Gordon Byrne who is one of the owner's sons. This is a family owned and run business.

I'm curious about how this price stacks up to what you were quoted.

We found the queen mattress in 264BH to be just too uncomfortable to consider leaving it the way it was...so we purchased a gel foam mattress topper from Costco when they went on sale...makes all the difference in the world.

Love my 26BH..which is close..great value for the money. Would love something larger with a slide, but the cost and weight are just more than I wanted to deal with.

We put a 2" memory foam on the bed and it really helped. No longer bothers me at all.

Thanks for the quick response. We haven't started negotiating yet so just trying to get an idea of real cost. Sounds like in the same ballpark though. The other trailer we are looking at is the 281BHS because of the slide and bigger kitchen. Though it would end up being about 4-5k more. Also it is only a short slide out less than 2 feet I think.

We are looking at crestview RV in buda. Anybody have any experience?

we bought our new 2014 jayflight swift 264bh 2 weeks ago. will be heading out soon for 2 week trip to fishing hole. Looking forward to a lot of camping this spring.

I know I late to this party, but we recently bought one of these as well. Eagerly waiting for the snow to melt so we can take it out!

I've thought about adding lights in the cargo areas as well; where did you get power? Is there an easy place to pull from, or did you have to run new wiring?

I just got some battery powered stick on lights. That was a lot easier than running new wiring.

Took my White Hawk 26srk to Lake Somerville for its shakedown cruise. It's just a hop,skip and a jump from you in Cypress. Nice place to check everything out. Lone Star is a good place to do business. Congrats on the new TT.

We just bought a brand new 264BH as well. Excited to use it. We have been to the Mount Rushmore area twice once staying in motels the second time we stayed at Rafter J Bar campground in Hill City. That was 12 years ago but I remember it being a beautiful campground. I would suggest sending off for a travel guide for the black hills area, there is a lot to see which can be overwhelming.
