Batteries are dealer, not factory, installed options.

My dealer furnished 2 deep cycle good quality batteries in nice battery boxes. I thought that was just common.

Wow, I would be peeved! As part of our "new customer package" that is included with a TT purchase, our dealer provides a brand new deep cycle battery (I think it's group 24 but would have to verify that), two full tanks of propane, a fresh water hose, sewer hose and a bottle and some packets of blank tank chemical. That's just standard, not something we had to request. Oh, and poop gloves for the hubby.

For the $$$ we dropped on our 2012 351 RLTS you would think the price of a battery from the dealer would be a mute issue, It really was. They didn't say a thing about the battery being a seperate charge until all the paperwork was done and we were doing our walk through. WTF??? Include that in your prep fees for Pete's sake. They ended up giving us one as I told them otherwise keep the camper and we'll see you later.
Can't really tow with out one. If you, (God forbid) break away from the TV the brakes will not activate w/o one. Also, while camping if you loose shore power the battery will kick on the fridge if you have it set to auto and have the LP gas on.
This topic just took me back to the beginning of June......

What I didn't know is that they put in a re-conditioned battery which failed after a short time and this one was also replaced only to find that they were using re-conditioned batteries. It is correct that if plugged into shore power, you do not absolutely have to have a battery for the 12V equipment to work. However, no battery means that your converter is changing 120V current into 12V current every time a 12V item is on. With a battery installed, the converter just has to keep it charged, and does not work anywhere as hard. Unless you have what is known as a continuous duty converter, it will likely fail sooner than normal under those conditions. Think of it like this - if you were to run your car without a battery, but with a battery charger connected, it would work for a while, but the battery charger would eventually fail due to overwork. Addition of the battery would provide storage for the current, and the charger would only need to replenish occasionally.

Batteries and battery trays are dealer supplied. It's just part of the dealer prep, just like washing and detailing before customer pickup. If your dealer didn't provide them I would worry about what else they didn't do.

So.. the dealer would let you drive off w/o a battery (or reliable one) and risk your safety should your TT becomes disconnected and the break aways fails to activate? WOW, yea once your at the table with pen in hand everything on that TT better be the way you want it or at least have it writing that they will fix it.

I'm on about my tenth recreational vehicle and I have never received a new one that did not have a battery on board. Can they even check out all the systems on board without a 12 volt battery? The 2010 we purchased last year had a large slide out and the dealer even put in a second battery to make sure we would have plenty. Depends on teh dealers I guess.

I would walk away if that was not explained before the walk thru and PDI. Never bought a rig with batteries being a extra cost.
There is no way a dealer could check it out properly w/o batteries and dangerous to send you out without one.

EVERY battery I have ever bought from Walmart, be it deep cycle or car battery has been relaced under warranty. And there have been several. IMO they are garbage. I will never buy another battery from Walmart.
