New couch in 23rlsw

On another post I said I was going to remove the factory couch/bed and replace it with a loveseat/recliner unit. A couple of posters requested I do a write up on the conversion.

Well, here it goes. 1st off, it's just me and my DW so we had no need for the couch/hide a bed that was in the TT from the factory and it's to uncomfortable for us and our senior problems. If for some reason we needed a extra bed the couch will do.

This is not a easy swap, especially in this floor plan. A lot to consider with specific dimensions such as the width, height, and depth of the new couch.
Especially because the slide retracts in front of the couch.

Also the entry door width and there is the bathroom wall right in front of the entry door so the entry access is limited. We did a lot of furniture shopping and ended up buying from a furniture store here in SoCal.

The store is called Jerome's and I don't think it is a national chain, maybe CA. & AZ. I didn't want to spend $750 but this was the only 1 that met our needs. Real leather was the only material so that drove the cost up. It is also a wall hugger unit which makes the best use of space. The backs and arm cushions are removable which saved my butt getting it in through the door.

As I mentioned before, once I removed the old unit I had to do a 30amp power cord conversion to make room. And since I had access, I also installed a Progressive Industries 30 amp hard wired surge protector with remote display.

Also added LED taillights that are made by Command Electronics, the same brand as the stock units. Direct replacement, no new holes needed.

The existing wiring, CATV coax, and 12volt wiring were a mess behind the old couch so I used plastic wire loom fro Harbor freight to dress it up.

The new couch is actually shorter than the old one so I used existing trim and part old the old cord box to hide the wiring where it could be seen on the sides of the couch.

Also the new couch limited access to the 3 drawers but we can live with that.

Thanks, I forgot to mention that I fastened it to the floor with L brackets using existing holes in the metal couch frame and lag screws to the floor.


A lot of planning and work but it's so much more comfortable than the old unit that was in there.


The part that worried me the most was would it fit through the door. Had to buy it first and then try it.


Could have been another piece of furniture in the house I didn't need.

Wireman, did you have any problems with adding weight to the trailer?

I think it probably only added 50-60 lbs max. I'm not anywhere near max cargo capacity anyway.


Probably took a little off the tongue weight but not enough to matter.
