New Jayco Flight 26BH owner .....
After a years worth of research and 2 RV shows, our family is now the proud owner of a Jayco Flight 26BH! Thanks to everyone for answering many of my questions on this forum. The dealer will be storing the camper for me until March which is nice.

We came pretty close to buying that one. Nice rig! Too bad you have to wait so long for it, that would drive me bananas!

Congratulations! We bought our TT in the dead of winter also and couldn’t wait until the area CGs opened April 1st to go camping! That was nice of your dealer to hold the TT for a while. The 26BH is a pretty popular TT….if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask!

thats the same one we got, the only thing extra i wanted was the aluminum wheels, its a 400 dollar option when you order it with them but 800 too add it after the fact, i kept the steel wheels needless to say
the only issue i find with mine is the doors to the under kitchen table seat storage if you sit on the end messes up the latches so watch out for that
also the velcro that holds the back rests up in place on the kitchen table tend to peel off easy, i think i am going to get the industrial stuff to hold them in place

Thanks everyone ... my family cannot wait until spring. I am looking at a couple trucks to tow the new camper one being a Toyota Tundra so I asked a some questions over on RV.net generating some interesting "opinions" on the Tow Vehicles thread. The Tundra has only about 1300# payload (door sticker) depending upon trim level (need the CrewMax) and I have a small family of 4 so should I be looking at something with a larger payload rating? I've looked at some of your signatures and see many of you towing with a 1/2 ton. I am just looking for feedback from the 26BH owners so I hope this doesn't start a similar RV.net thread

For half tons that actually tow;
I would stay away from the Tundra and Ram 1500, because of the low payload capacities. There is nothing like being worried about using your bed, because you're at or over capacity with the trailer hitched and family buckled up.
I love my Titan, and the ~1950 payload capacity. It's in serious need of refresh(due for 2015 model), and has terrible mileage in every condition(except downhill with 100% real gas and a stiff tail wind).

Personally, I don't like towing my 26BH with my Silverado 1500 crew cab and wished I had a larger truck. With a family of 4 and the TV and trailer loaded, the TV does fine on flat roads but throw in some moderate inclines and the 5.3 struggles. I have the factory tow package but with a 3.42 gear and 4 speed transmission, the truck seems anemic at towing that much weight.

This is just our results. We had a 2010 Tundra Crewmax 4x4 and towed a 2011 Jay Fight 26RLS, hitch weight was 805 and total GW 8300 lbs. The Tundra rear squatted down way too much for our liking. The main issue we had was going down hill and felt pushed by the TT. We tried tow/haul on and tow/haul off. Just not a comfortable feeling on the down hill either way even on different outings. Don't get me wrong it had plenty of power just a softer rear base and didn't care for the way the computer took over the engine on the down hills. Ended up trading for a 3/4 ton and have been very happy with results in all our traveling, local and cross country. We were also able to trade for a little larger unit without any issues.

We are a family of 5 (kids 8,5,1)
I replaced my '04 Tahoe and '04 Silverado, each 5.3 4x4 3:73, with a 3/4 Ton because of payload and performance in the mountains. Mine were 4speeds transmissions and they struggled when loaded in the mountains. Secondly my 26BH once loaded had a tongue wright >800lbs; TW plus family, dog and a few things in the truck bed (bikes & firewood) we easily exceeded the cargo capacity of either of my 1/2 tons.

Since we all have different TV/TT loading habits, here is a worst case "loaded" tongue weight scenario: The 2014 Jay Flight 26BH has a 7,500lb GVWR, is a 29ft long TT, thus a recommended 13% to 15% loaded tongue weight range would be 975lbs to 1,125lbs.
Also, the 26BH has a nice CCC (even after yellow sticker Ship Weight is taken into consideration) that can work in one's favor with 'moderate' loading habits, thus reducing the required loaded tongue weight impact against the TV's available payload capacity.
I do agree..., when looking at 1/2 tons maximizing Payload Capacity is a must.
Bob
