Howdy,

Happened to pick up a 1989 2650 Express from a neighbor who was looking to move it off of his property, so got it for a song. Looking forward to getting it on the road, but before I do so....

A couple questions:

Have found a PDF copy of the manual via CunninghamCampers, however it's pretty vague as it seems to cover a whole lot of different models. Looking for something a bit more specific to the model I own.

None of the keys I have will open the two locked doors (almost look like cabinets, storage space?) on the exterior of the camper, located on the side with the power hook up, water, sewage, etc... something vital in either of those, or is it simply storage?

Pulls well behind my 2012 Sierra 2500, it's in really good shape for the age, etc.... I'm sure I will be bothering folks with lots of questions going forward.

Outside door locks should open with CH751 keys. Every RV uses the same key for those. You can get them at any RV store, or on Amazon.

Lubricate the locks before abandoning the keys. Any bit of stiffness in the tumblers and it won't open. Get a graphite based lube in there and try each key in turn several times. The right one for each lock will reveal itself.


Go over the axles thoroughly! Replace anything suspect. My first trailer was 25 years loved by the original owner, but neglecting the wheel bearings cost me a Sunday afternoon stuck on the side of an Interstate.


Then start making it your own.

Those keys are tricky. They will go in no matter how you hold them but will only turn if inserted properly.
Old campers are great. My last one was 33 years old when we retired it. Great times making great memories.

Usually the locks will have numbers on them that match up with the numbers on the keys. Check them out.

So that key worked with a bit of graphite, though sadly no treasures to report in either compartment. Thanks again.

Another question...

My brother and I were thinking of using this as a deer camp, parking it for the winter, etc.... LP fridge, and heater... will they require constant electricity to function, or just to get them up and running? The water heater is LP as well, but I'm not planning on having any water in it past mid-October.

Everything seems to work just fine via my generator, but if it needs to run non-stop to heat the camper than I might be looking at an additional heat source.
