New Outdoor speakers

I have a 2010 297bhs I have a stereo with Speakers A & B button. I do not have out door speakers but I want them Tell me if this will work. I just plan to pull the stereo out of the cabinet to get access to the back. Hook some speaker wire and run through the cabinets to a spot outside. Drill a hole through the side for the wires, caulk it. And then find some flush mounted speakers and screw them to the outside and run a bead of caulk around them. Done. Am I missing anything. questions,
1) Do they make flush mounted speakers? Do not want to cut a hole in the side of my camper
2) DO I need to mount them to a stud?
3) If yes to No. 2, how do I find said stud

Why mount speakers? Have them on my 2014 White Hawk and have never used them. Unless you are boondocking, most CG's restrick external music. Neighbors typically don't want to listen to your choice in music. Outdoor entertainment can easily be accomodated using a blue tooth device and wireless speakers rather than having to deal with hard wiring and holes in the camper.

Your plan sounds good and I would use flush mount marine speakers. If you have fiberglass you wont need to worry about studs with the speakers.

I have aluminum siding. What about wireless speakers. Are they any good?

Go with a bluetooth rechargeable one. You can also buy an adaptor that will plug into the head unit phone jack so it will pair unless you use your phone or Ipod.

I like it so I can move it around to where I am in the campsite and keep the music within the confines of my site. Rarely can you hear it beyond my site as I face the speaker towards the unit. Hardly ever use my outdoor speakers.

I agree that wireless is the way to go. There are quite a few high quality speakers available.

Just a point of clarification - flush mount means you will be cutting holes to recess the speakers flush with the surface material while surface mount means you will just mount them on the surface with screws, bolts, etc., without cutting holes.

I have factory speakers on my 32rlds. They sound like an old AM transistor radio. I think I must just get a small boom box to set on the table near the door of the TT.

My bad on flush mount. I would for sure go with surface mount and think about wireless/blue tooth. We use jawbone wireless and can place the speaker where we want to.

I had Kicker marine speakers in my boat, they sounded great and are obviously waterproof.


I have been in a lot of CG's in the last 10 years and have never been told I could not play music. I guess some might but I haven't seen one yet.

If anyone is looking for good outdoor speakers you can find used sets of the Klipsch outdoor speakers like AW-525 that are both good in range with respectable bottom end and very good efficiency of 92+db/watt. Yea they are not tiny, but if you ARE boondocking and stuff and want to rockout, they are a good choice and weather doesn't bother them.

For stereo amplification I'd recommend a small class D digital 12v amplifer such as the Lepai 2020+ which is the size of a thick paperback and puts out nearly 20w RMS with excellent sound for less than $30 from parts express. Some folks use them for driving home speakers on high-end systems they sound so good. Some other ones come with bluetooth something I'm looking into. If you do get one buy a decent powersupply some are sold w/o.

I made a solar-rechargable sound system that rocks with this sort of thing not just for the TT but we've used it for all sorts of things.

Pull stereo out and hook wires up to B output Run the m down the wall and into the compartment under the bed. Roll the wire and speakers up in there and pull out and set up through the access panel when we arrive? Easy Peasy, no cutting or drilling

That would work, if you go this way, I'd wire to a jack plate in the storage area and put plugs on the wires to the speakers. That way a break in the speaker wires will be simple to fix

Don't know about 2010 models but current marketing on Jayco's site says the walls are full of foam insulation

You could get some office / computer supply wire management conduit shaped like a U and it can be stuck in place using double sided tape as they make product for desks, could blend in corner on the back side by bunks with only small hole through bulkhead, leaving exterior wall intact.

I have a Bose blue tooth speaker and it sounds awesome. I can also connect with a jack to my iPod.

X2 - we have a couple of Bluetooth speakers, one inside and one for outside. The inside is a Panasonic SC-NP10 and the outside is an Ion Road Rocker (small, 8 inch cube). They both work great for listening to music via phones, tablets, iPods, etc. The Ion is rechargeable, portable and sounds great. Like 3'enough, we're diligent about the volume and careful not to disturb others.

But you still need speakers, 120V and 12v supply to drive the Rocketfish...
