Congratulations and welcome. Primitive camping otherwise known as boondocking in my opinion is the most fun. So, your question: do you need a generator?
That depends on how long you are camping for. I have two 12V deep cycle batteries and regularly go out for four days, sometimes pushing to the morning of the 5th day. I don't always take my generator on short trips such as this. I just watch my power usage. The standard stuff, like turning lights out, keeping the water pump turned off unless I am actually using the water. Sitting outside by the campfire with a coleman lantern in the evenings, using flashlights for those quick trips in and out of the RV.
Things will change if its cold out. If you are using your onboard heater that will drain your batteries pretty fast. I utilize a lil buddy heater when its really cold out and I am boondocking (turning it off at night of course).
There are several things you can do though. You can get a decent generator fairly cheap (Cabelas sells a 2000watt inverter generator for less than $600 that is fairly quiet and works great) and run that for a couple hours every few days to charge the on board batteries. You can also get a cheap solar panel which will give the batteries a charge and keep them topped off during the day (yet keep in mind if you are going to leave a solar panel connected to your battery during storage, get a tender so that you do not overcharge.
However, if its just a weekend trip, you should be fine.
