New to the Jayco family

We just purchased a Whitehawk 28DSBH and will be towing with a 2013 Ford F150 ecoboost, I have heard different people tell me that I will want to upgrade my truck tires to a more heavy duty rating. Is this needed or would it just be a waste if I'm not traveling the whole country with my TT. I'm not sure what rating or # of ply that comes standard on the truck. Any help would be greatly appreciated, as we are taking our first trip from MN to Rapid City this June.

If you have P rated tires you will probably want to go to LT. They will be much more stable, but your unloaded ride will be stiffer.

Congrats on the new trailer. We were just eyeing up the Whitehawks at the past RV show but decided we would stick with our Jayfeather. We just bought a 2013 F-150 with the 5 liter engine. Ours has the 20" Pirelli Scorpion P rated tires. The load rating for the tires match the capacity of the truck but at some point I would like to change to a LT (light truck) rated tires. The difference between the two is the LT have a stronger side wall which helps keep the tires from flexing side to side while under load. The P rated tires are softer which will give a nicer ride when it's not loaded but flex and bulge more when under load. Ryan

Congrats on your new trailer. We just purchased the same one and will pick it up from the dealer in a couple months. I also have the F150 with the 5.0 but had special ordered mine with the Off Road Pkg that included LT tires. Enjoy your new trailer.

Congrats on your purchase and welcome to JOF! I would suggest taking your TV and TT to a CAT scale fully loaded like you would be going camping to verify that you are within the weight limits of your truck.

BTW....nice choice on the ecobeast, I have had mine for 3 months and love it!

Welcome to JOF. Try the tires you have and see if you notice that they are too soft for your liking. The LT's are a firmer more supportive tire but you will notice a harder ride when not towing. A trade-off you have to consider but they are safer.

Hi we are owners of 2013 Whitehawk 31DSLB pulling with Nissan Titan. Our trailer has sway and supposedly we have hitch sway system. Does anybody else have sway issues?

Hmmm, according to Jayco's website, the 31 DSLB has a gross weight of 8200 lbs., meaning it will throw about 1,066 lbs of tongue weight onto your TV. Looks like the total GVWR for most recent Titans is around 7100 lbs. IF your truck weighs less than 6000 lbs, that leaves you a bare margin of carrying weight.

Best thing to do is find the nearest CAT scale and weigh your TV (Titan) with full load of passengers and gas, and see what it weighs. IF it weighs more than 6000 lbs, you likely will be exceeding the recommended GVWR as soon as you hook the trailer to your truck. This does not include any cargo in the truck, etc.

see this thread for more information than you likely will want:

http://www.jaycoowners.com/showthrea...967#post135967

Bottom line is that even the Jayco White Hawk "ultralites" in the longer series (longer than 28') weigh more than most of today's 1/2 ton trucks are rated to tow.

Again, best advice is to weigh your TV and subtract that weight from its GVWR (usually on a sticker inside the driver's door) to see how much more weight you can safely throw on it. In your case, if the difference is less than 1000 lbs, that may very well explain the sway issue.

Welcome to the JOF!
