Newbie help - hot water heater

Hello all,

Brand new to the forum, hoping for a bit of help.
Have a 2006 jay feather sport 165 and am trying to figure out how to get water into the hot water tank after dewinterizing.

After looking at manuals and forums it still isn't clear which valves need to be on...either under the sink or on the hot water tank itself.

I'm currently hooked up to the city water and had my pump on but think the bypass may be off?? Wherever that may be?

Thanks from a newbie!
Kim

Look at the HW heater there should be 3 valves one on the inlet one on the outlet and the by pass If the valve handle is in line with the water line the valve is open and if the valve handle is across the water line it is closed You want the inlet and outlet valves to be open and the bypass closed

DO NOT turn the heater on until you are sure there is water in the tank

The valves are set for bypass. Flip all three valve handles. If the handle is crosswise to the pipe the valve is closed.

The top valve is closed The bottom valve is closed The valve that is connecting the top line to the bottom line is open That is the bypass valve

Turn each valve 90 degrees and you will be in the correct position
Take a picture when your done so you have it for future reference

Those 3 need to be the opposite of what they are. Make sure after you change them, to open a hot water valve and let the tank fill before turning on the power or gas.

Just turn the left one to be closed( not allowing water to flow) and the other 2 open (knob inline)

Getting water in the tank no problem now but water is flowing outside under where the city water hook up is. If I shut the valves under the sink it stops, so is the flow to the tank. Tried different variations of valves open without luck.

Current settings with valves off. Any ideas?

Thanks again,
Kim

Sounds like the low point drains are opened. In the back of that image there are two valves, with a pipe going down through the floor. These valves are a bit different than the others. You pull up to open and push down to close, these valves need to be closed.

The low point valves allow you to drain most of the water from the water lines, without using an air compressor.

From the picture it looks like the black valve on the right of the 3 valves is open as stated above make sure they are pushed down to close

Its nice that you are posting pictures It makes it easy to see what you have and for you also to learn

Keep your pics in a file for future reference

If and when you get around to putting water into your fresh water holding tank you may also see water coming out as there should be a drain line for that tank You may also see water come out from the over fill after you have the tank filled. that is normal and also lets you know the tank is full

Push all the low point valves handles down.

I made the mistake of turning the water heater on BEFORe making sure the water valves were turned back on after winter. Did I fry something as a result? What would I have to replace as a result of my mistake? Thanks for a reply. I'm such a dumb ass sometimes

You may or may not have burned out the element, but if there was no water in the heater the chances are good that it's burned out. It doesn't take long.

Welcome Aboard!

X2, most water heaters it is not difficult to replace the heating element. To test it, fill it, and while connected to shore power, turn on the electric heating element.

I turn the circuit breaker off if the water tank is empty.

The water heater element is hard to replace in some models. If yours plugs into an outlet you can unplug it and use a meter to check resistance across the male plug spades.

Please help…

When we first hooked up to city water, without turning on water first, we had water to all faucets (kitchen sink, bathroom sink, shower, outside shower, toilet). I then opened up the lines to the water heater, checked outside at the pressure release valve (all good), went to test kitchen sink, ran for a minute, spit air & then went to basically a dribble. Everything else has hot/cold & pressure except for kitchen sink???? I’m lost. This is my first whole week of ever being in a pull behind trailer. 2006 Jayco

If all of the other fixtures work... If you **know** you have hot and cold in the bathroom and the shower and it's only the kitchen that isn't flowing, then a very common problem is a clogged strainer.

The strainer should unscrew from the faucet outlet. Start there.

But you really have to promise us that all of the other faucets are working.

I assure you all other water sources are working, just not the kitchen. I actually thought about your answer earlier but the better half has been remodeling (painting) the kitchen all day & I’m staying out of her way. Will check the strainer/screen in the a.m. Thank you for your help. Much appreciated.
