Newbie Water tank issues. 1998 Eagle262FK

I'm confused.

We bought a used Jayco Eagle 262FK There's some things wrong I have to fix.

one issue right now is the potable water tank.

Here's the scenario.

It's a 30 gallon tank.

I fill it it up to the hose inlet line as I can see it under the jack knife sofa.

Then.. I proceed to turn on my faucets and heater pump to clean the lines of air.

For some reason when I do this a short time later water is spilled out the city water connection. I can't figure out why? Hence my potable water is wasted quite fast and the only solution I can think of is to cap the city water connection with a hose cap or route the garden hose back into the filler water inlet area. My fear is the pressure of the pump may build up and damage the tank with the hose cap on the city water connection. Is this the normal operation? I thought the city water inlet valve was for camp ground usage.

What a'm I missing? Do I add water to the grey water tank and black water tank. I see a city water fill connection and a manual fill connection.

This is the first time we plan to use the toilet and water tank. We will not have access to water at the area we are camping at.

Please advise confused in VA.

There is a check valve just inside the city water hose input. It obviously must not be working.
You could try replacing it or putting a small screwdriver in it in case it is not seating properly.
Capping it will work in a pinch.

Sounds to me that you have a broken one way valve in the city water connection. I had one blow out a year or two ago and the amount of water coming out of it was amazing. For me, I went and bought a hose Y adaptor at walmart and put it on where the hose would hook up and turned the valve off so the water couldn't be pumped out. Once I got home, I went to my local RV dealer and bought a replacement unit. The pump and city water connections use the same hoses inside the camper with a check valve at the city water connection and I belive some sort of check valve after the outlet of the pump (maybe built into the pump).

Thanks, That answer that one. So its safe to say I can use a cap for a few days until I have the check valve replace. Assuming since this is the setup I don't need to worry about back pressure and blowing out the holding tank.

A few more questions.

Do I only fill the one potable storage tank? Then as we use the camper facet water, shower, etc.. It routes to the grey water tank and waste to the black tank. Do I need to add water to the grey and black water tanks before usage?

If so, how much should I add?

Another thing that brothers me.

How long does it take for the battery to run interior lights. Seems ours with battery fully charged takes a long time for the lights to come on if they come on.

Odd thing is Microwave seems to have power off the bat but nothing else does for a period of time. Works best with the generator running power for everything.

Most people add a few gallons of water to the black tank and leave the dump valve closed until ready to dump. Grey valves do not need to worry about the "poop pyramid".

If the lights are slow to come on you may have a loose or dirty connection at the battery, or where the negative Side of the battery connects to the frame of the trailer ( ground )

I would be surprised if the microwave ran from the battery. ( unless you have an inverter somewhere ) typically they are 110volt devices and will run you are on shore power or Genset.

Lots of threads on this site about quiet Genset, but be prepared for sticker shock.
