No power to jack or cabin from vehicle

So I have a weird issue with my camper.

With battery disconnected:
- Neither the power jack or power in the cabin (lights, radio, fridge, furnace) isn't getting power plugged into my truck via 7 pin connection.
- I do get running lights and blinkers.

I checked the breakers and fuses and didn't see an issue there.

With the 12v camper battery connected:
-EVERYTHING works just fine!

I tried the following troubleshooting:
- Tried connecting a 7 pin male/female extension cord that I have.
- Tried connecting into another vehicle (same result..running lights and blinkers but nothing else.
- Removed the ground screw to the frame, scraped and sanded the area and reattached.

Any ideas?

You probably need a battery to complete the connection.

Trailer lights are powered directly from your trailer's wiring harness. The wire harness will also recharge your battery provided you have the proper fuse or relay in your TV but it will not feed your house lights. If you don't have a battery installed then your converter won't see any power.

Here are a couple 12VDC wiring diagrams for the JAYCO 284BHS. The wiring diagram for the TV hookup should be the same for all TT's. The other wiring diagram is for the TT's 12VDC items.

If you follow the TV hookup cable back to the frame there should be a 4x4 Electrical box that the cable connects to the other TT cables. You can trace them out to the battery fuse.... the TT's charge controller.... exterior lights....

Hope this helps

Good Luck

Thank you all for your responses.

I've looked closer at the fuse box and I found two different relay's in the manual.

#9 — Trailer tow battery charger relay. No amp rating
#21 - Trailer tow battery charge relay power. 30 amp

Each of these are missing

I just got a 2013 F150, which replace my 2011 Ford Explorer. I had no issues with the Explorer. I never thought that I'd have to install friggin relays to make the system work correctly...especially being the F150 is design for towing and has the integrated brake controller. A friend of mine sent a forum where F150 owners are mentioning they had to install these relays to fix the same problem I'm having. I guess that'll fix it!

Thank you again to each of you. These forums are great!

My power jack worked with my Explorer with the battery disconnected.

Same truck - your issue is in the truck relay not the TT

Now I feel really stupid. I bought my F150 with Max Tow Package new in 2010. I've towed my 2000 Coleman Popup Trailer for years and now my 2016 Jayco 27DSRL. I never realized that there were no relays installed in the power distribution panel to charge the trailer battery until I read this post and went to look for myself. Same thing, no relay or 30A Maxi-fuse in the trailer battery charger positions. So, I went to the F150 forums and did a search. It is very common and virtually every post said that the relay and fuse are found in a plastic bag usually in the glove box. Now, I've owned my truck for 7 years and I don't recall any plastic bag containing these relays. I just tore the inside of my truck apart looking for this plastic bag...found it in a storage compartment beneath my center console seat, buried beneath gloves, hats and a roll of toilet paper.

When I am plugged into shore power, I do not need batteries to run anything inside my TT.

This is what I hear. Ford doesn't install the fuse that will power your trailer and charge a connected battery. Adding those fuses should fix your problem.
