Paint frame

I would like to paint the frame on my travel trailer to minimize rust in the future. Any suggestions from anyone and materials used as in POR 15.?

I'm very familiar with POR-15, and it is a great preservative paint. The one thing that you have to do to make it work properly is to start with clean metal - that is, with no rust, grease, corrosion, or loose paint. It has to be either sandblasted, or scrubbed thoroughly with a wire brush. Anything left on the surface will interfere with proper adhesion. Unless you have a really small area to paint, or don't mind a fair amount of cleaning, I would agree with previous post and use Rust-Oleum or some other paint that can cover rust or scale. It is also much cheaper than POR-15.

I use Rust Converter as a primer then a rattle can of Rustoleum.

Do the same thing for my cars and trucks.

If I am undercoating, I use truck bed liner.

Thanks for the suggestion. I think Rust-Oleum wins out. I plan on painting the bumper, tongue and as much of the frame as possible. We camp at the coast and I understand humidity can affect the adhesion with the POR-15. Thanks again.

POR-15 is a great rust converter.. but it is not UV stable so you have to paint over it..

If you paint your frame after its rusty you waited too long. I paint stuff before rust rears it's ugly head...just one of those little things I picked up along life's pathway. But to answer your question, I scrub my frame with Purple Power detergent and water, rinse thoroughly, let dry and rattle can black gloss Rust Oleum.

Every year in the late spring I will look for rust spots on the frame or bumper. I then sand them and spay paint with Rustoleum. It has kept my tt in tip top condition with very little work.
