Potential roof leak?

Hello,
So I was on the roof of my 2016 Jay Flight slx 264BHW clearing snow and was checking seals and noticed a separation in the sealant around the TV antenna. Also notice "rippling" (for lack of a better term) along the edge of the roof. This is my first trailer and I am unsure as to what the proper product would be to fix the sealant and if I should be concerned about the edge of the roof. Thanks in advance for any insight and/or advice on this advice.

Dicor self leveling caulk will reseal those cracks. The first one indicates it needs the dealer to take a look if it is warranty.

All need immediate attention either way.

I would get that caulked asap. The rippling you referred to, I would not be worried about.

For me, I would call the dealership and see if you could email your pictures to them and ask them the same question you posed here. That way you have in writing that it's an easy fix and to bring the camper in. If you can't get the camper in soon, I would get some self leveling caulk to seal it up for now, then take it to the dealer when you are able.

Good luck.

Dicor tends to shrink and crack over time. I would suggest using Proguard.

I would PM BigJohnD for further direction.

Here is a thread discussing his use and the product. It stays more flexible, does not seem to discolor, and does not shrink and crack like Dicor. Also easier to take off and reseal, unlike Eternabond tape.

Once applied you don't need to touch Eternabond for 15 yrs or longer

They give a 15 yr warranty if properly applied.

Send pictures and describe the problem to JAYCO just so it is on record that you have this issue and if anything goes wrong because of these cracks, your problem is on record. If you have more than one spot, send those also.

Neither am I. Funny thing is that we absolutely love everything else about this trailer so far. Had it since August but didn't expect something like this already.

Sloppy caulking job around that antenna. The caulking is original around my antenna base and still looks good on my 6 year trailer so by comparison they did not get it right on this new one. I would get some dicor on those cracks post haste to keep water out, would not wait for a dealer to do it.

Antenna needs to be resealed with Dicor. The ripple in the roof I wouldn't sweat. Will probably go away and flatten out once it warms back up.

Our 2016 23MRB is currently in the shop being worked on for the same issue. I didn't actually go on the roof, but we saw drips of water coming from the antenna crank. When I took it in, the service guy said it probably wouldn't be covered under warranty, since the sealant is a maintenance item. Apparently it's only warrantied for 90 days!!! I told him that was insane. Our unit came straight from the factory. It's not like it was sitting out in the sun for 6 months.

We pick it up today and will find out if Jayco will cover it. I'll post an update later.

That''s horse manure. Had ours at the dealer after a year and the roof was checked and rear cap re caulked .. NO CHARGE and it was marked warranty .

I had my crank up antenna leaking through and dripping down the crank as well last year. Mine was out of warranty, but when I had the roof replaced last month I got rid of that leaky sucker with this one: Winegard RoadStar RS-3000 RV TV Antenna. It may not be as good as the crank up for reception, but since I don't use broadcast TV at all I really don't care. It doesn't leak and I filled up the hole in the ceiling with a hole plug.

Agreed, putting some self leveling Dicor on those cracks is a no-brainer and not a big deal. Just clean the caulk up good before you put new Dicor down.

Also, if any of you have the Batwing antenna, give this a look:

If it were mine. To be safe I would protect the area, put Jayco on notice of what you have found and have your dealer evaluate the areas to make sure there is no hidden damage. Just to be safe document what you have discovered. You don’t want something denied under your warranty because you did not do your part. Hope that it nothing to be concerned about but you never know. Remember Water and Rust are not your friends.

So, I've now left 3 messages for the service tech. I have his direct line. I finally got tired of waiting for him to call back, so I called the service department at shortly after 5pm. The receptionist told me that almost all the service writers are gone because the service department closes at 6pm. Makes perfect sense. I always leave work an hour early.

The receptionist didn't find my paperwork in her "Finished" folder, so I don't think my RV has been worked on. I'm probably getting wound up over nothing, but I'm guessing they are going to tell me that the $160 estimate--for what SHOULD be warranty work--isn't enough and that they need my approval for a larger budget.

Right now I'm just fuming that I haven't gotten a call back. Three voice messages left over the course of 24 hours with the tech's voice mail box and not one call back from him. So my RV is just sitting there in the shop not being worked on.

I shouldn't be surprised. If I knew back in July what I know now, I wouldn't have gotten within 100 miles of this dealer.

I made my appointment for March 9th. The woman I spoke with was surprised I wanted to bring it in. Considering the age and ripples in the roof I'm getting it documented and then picking up some Dicor to have on hand. Thanks for the advice, this is my first camper and appreciate the responses.

I spoke to the service writer today at the dealer. They fixed all the leaks under warranty and ordered a new bathroom faucet (different issue not previously listed).

The service writer said he didn't get any of my voice messages....which is pretty odd.

Anyhow, we pick it up today. All's well that ends well.

Good. I'm glad it worked out for you.
