Power went out, then came back on

Me and the family are camping and when my wife turned on the bathroom light the power went out. Everything was out accept the outside string lights that are plugged in an outside outlet. I checked the breaker and it was on, the plug light was on and the string light was still on. Then after a few minutes they came back on. Everything seems to be working now. Any thoughts on what the cause? Is there something that could cause this like a bad fuse or battery not connected right? Any thoughts?

Power on/off

What we have here is a paucity of information. A recommendation DutchDawg: since this seems to be your first post, I was unable to ascertain what RV you have so I'd let the members know exactly what equipment you're using (suggest putting that in your Signature - see "User CP" for tabs); if you are unable to do that, list your RV type, model, etc. Be a bit more descriptive of your connection, e.g. plug? What plug- home, CG, etc. You mentioned both breakers, fuses and green light - where? These Forum members are both helpful and competent, but they must have info.

Thanks Jeff. I am a Nub. I added the info to my signature, but just in case it didn't go through. I'm pulling a 2009 Jay Feather. It is plugged in with a 30amp plug, that was replaced last spring. I don't have much other info than that. Everything was working, then when we tried to turn on the bathroom light everything went off. I have no idea what is going on. I wonder if I'm pulling any power from the box. The battery level is on 1, lights are dim, but the fridge is working. I also tried to turn on the heater, but it is not blowing. 'Ales me think there is not enough power coming in. Could it be that the converter blew a fuse?

Sounds like your 12 volt system needs a charge. Do you have a voltmeter to check your battery voltage? Can you start and run your tow vehicle and plug your trailer into that?

I don't have a volt meter. I just plugged it to the car and the battery is charging/ lights are brighter. So is it the converter fuse?

Could be the converter itself is bad, a loose wire somewhere, or a bad fuse, etc. Regardless, it may take some time to figure out.

If you want to keep camping, recommend you check your battery for correct water level. If the battery checks out, the most expedient fix is to go to your local big box store and pick up a battery charger. Connect it to your battery, turn it on, and let it do its thing. This should allow you to get power to your lights and heater for the duration of your trip. You can continue troubleshooting when you get back home.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to get a charger to get through our trip. What type and size is recommended? Can I run these chargers off an extension cord to reach the battery?

Yes, you can normally run these off of an extension cord. Be aware that battery chargers sometimes put out pretty high voltages, on the order of 15-16 volts. I would turn everything off in the trailer and disconnect one of the battery wires while you are charging. This issue could also be caused by bad connections. You might want to go around and check/tighten all connections(with all power off/unplugged). In particular check your battery connections, the connection to the trailer frame, all the connections in the converter box and the circuit breakers.

While you are out pick up a digital multimeter as well. Then you can start some troubleshooting while still camping. If you are in a busy campground a neighbor may offer to help when they see you break out the tools. Good luck.
Happy Camping

Thanks for everyone's help. The battery was done for, and wouldn't hold a charge. Thus the converter overworked to keep the power going through the battery and died. I'm picking up a converter tomorrow and installing it. Lesson learned: take care of your battery and replace it every 2-3 years.

If your trailer has a 12volt power outlet, consider something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Zeltauto-Ciga...te+lighter+vol

It's an inexpensive and easy way to keep a eye on your trailer battery voltage and charging voltage.
