Progressive EMS HW30C is humming
Hello,
I installed a progressive EMS HW30 in my trailer this weekend. Installation was smooth and straight forward. However, there is an electrical hum noise that comes from it. I presume this is normal but want to validate if any other HW30 owners have same hum? And any idea why (ie. same wires, same amp/volt...so why the hum)?

I installed a 50A in our 5th. It has no noise. Give them a call.
I've had an excellent experience with their 800 support number.

The contactor coil may be humming and the sound it resonating to the floor or where it is mounted. Just to be safe call progressive tech support.

No error codes are showing. The display alternates through the voltage, amps, hz and error code as per the documentation and the values are all as I would expect (120-122v, amps change as my draw changes, 60hz steady, and EO).
I have the EMS box mounted vertically against plywood panel inside one of the cabinets.
Wondering if perhaps I installed the current draw donut (not sure what it is called) in opposite direction. I placed the side with the arrow closest to the wiring brick in the middle of EMS where the wires are screwed down (I believe the brick is called the contactor??)
When the RV is plugged is plugged into power; there is a thunk noise. I presume this is the contactor engaging somehow??? At that point the constant electrical hum as if you were standing under a large hydro line.
I will try to go out to campsite this week and dismount the EMS from the plywood to test if it is because it is resonating against the plywood.

Mine is mounted to the backside of the plywood cabinet that holds the converter. No humming. Call progressive first.

It is normal for the unit to emit a slight/minor/small hum sound. In fact, I'll bet you dollars to donuts that those who didn't hear a humming sound will hear the hum if one listens carefully in a quiet environment. If you're hearing something other than a slight/minor/small hum sound, a call to Progressive is recommended.

I noticed a very slight hum coming from my 30 amp hardwired EMS and was told by Progressive Dynamics that a very slight hum is normal; it originates from the relay that is held open when power is passed through the EMS. I mounted mine on a piece of foam and put a piece of foam on the lid and the hum could no longer be easily heard.
This was a very small, very slight hum.
