Propane Alarm going off after winterizing the trailer

Hello all,

I am new to the travel trailer world and have a question for all you seasoned vets out there! I had my 2007 27BH travel trailer winterized by a RV dealer at the end of Septemeber and the propane gas sensor alarm has been going off. I went to look and the the propane is shut off everything in the trailer is off. I turned on a light and the alarm went off for a lilttle while, then it returned. Not sure what it is or what I can do to fix this.

Thanks in advanced.

DB

DB, do you mean the Carbon Monoxide Alarm? Sounds a lot like the alarm in my 2008. I think you and I have a defective alarm. Mine says to replace by 2014 so they are obviously not built to last. Since I am winterized, I went ahead and pulled mine off the ceiling and will buy a new one before taking the RV out next spring. This is one piece of equipment that I want working properly. By the way, welcome to Jayco Owners Forum. Go to the New Members Forum when you get a chance and tell us a little about yourself.

Is your battery connected? The alarms sound when the battery gets low. Recharge the battery and then disconnect it or remove it for the winter.

We had a weird problem with our alarm a few weeks ago. None of the lights or sounds from the alarm matched up with the stuff in the insturction booklet. We just had the entire unit replaced.

My mistake. I was thinking of my CO detector which I am replacing. Since the propane sensor is hard wired to your 12 volt system, it likely has something to do with your battery strength. That may be why it is alarming. I know the first time my propane alarm went off was on the third day of dry camping without charging the battery and was not a propane issue at all. Good luck.

By the way, the propane detectors have a replacement date recommendation on them as well.

I had the same thing happen when I was pouring antifreeze down the drains and having the pump siphon it into the pipes.
I think there must be something with the smell of the RV antifreeze that the CO detector doesn't like.
I opened the door and fanned the alarm and it shut off.
I don't think you have a bad alarm or a low battery. I have brand new batteries fully charged.

I've heard of battery low issues causing similar - is the trailer plugged in?

Thanks to everyone for your replies, it turns out that it was the battery. I removed the battery for the winter.
Thx again,
DB

When your battery is low the alarm will "chirp", not sounding constantly the way it does when it is an alarm.
