Propane Tank No No

I guess I'm from the old school that had to tighten the pigtails on a propane tank with a wrench. Even though the newer OPD tanks have a large nut that only requires hand tightening, I always felt inclined to snug them up a little bit more with a pair of slip joint pliers. Well, here's the problem.....over time the o-ring type seal in the tank valve will get flattened out from over tightening and it will no longer seal no matter how tight you get it. Even a little vaseoline on it would not seal it. I called Manchester to see if they sell a replacement seal, and it is only serviced by replacing the entire valve. No replacement parts are available......Just a tip for those like me that think if hand tight is okay, then wrench tight is even better.

And they used to be left hand threads too. That was always fun to remember.

Love the new style hand tightened nuts with the right hand threads.

Our Pinnacle has a slide tray with the 2 propane tanks on it.

Had to pull the inside propane tank today and get it filled.
That inside tank on the slide tray sure is a PITA to get out.

Any ideas on a better way to get the inside propane tank out?

I like the hand tighten fittings. I need to change the end of the hose on the BBQ so I will no longer have to use a wrench.

1x on the newer hand-tightening fittings.
Learned the hard way tho that there is a valve in the fitting that can close if the gas is turned on quickly. I think it's there to protect against an open line. Sometimes a tap on the fitting will allow the valve to re-open.

I have the same problem Rob. I try to make sure I always run the outside tank until empty and then only use the inside tank until I get the empty one filled then go back to using it. One of these days I'm going to have to run the inside tank empty, but I sure don't want to. During the winter I use a 150 gallon external tank and bypass the smaller tanks completely so I don't have the problem very often.

Go get some green fatter o-rings, 1/4 inch diameter hole I believe
I had a tank that seeped some, swapping it side to side with the other tank
proved it was the one tank.
The Suburban dealer told me what to do and that took care of the problem.
Napa or an auto parts place will have them.
