On my 33 RLDS I just changed all the bulbs to LED. You don't need to change the fixtures. I can turn on every single light and the converter fan wont even come on when before, just a couple of incandescent bulbs would make it come on.

I went the same route as 33 did and replaced the incandescent bulbs with LED's in both trailers we've owned. I shopped ebay and bought from a seller in China. Our current trailer is a 5th and had 15 halogen bulbs (very hot) in addition to several of the small bulbs (#921 maybe) that I replaced. If you go that route get some extras in case there are failures.
Get the bulb type and do a google search to determine how bright the standard bulb is (Lumens) and what the color temperature is (Kelvin).
Figure out if you want to match the brightness and what color you want. Lots of LED replacements are sold with a description of the color (bright white, warm white, cool white, etc). I've always bought the LED replacement based on its Lumens and Kelvin numbers. I match the brightness as well as I can and look for a color around 4500-5000K which matches the incandescent pretty well (I don't like the blueish color at all).

Thank you - very informative reply. I am looking to convert my exterior lights (tail and running) to LED. I don't think the above applies to that or does it?

Not really. For brake and running lights I'd get the brightest I could find and not worry about the color too much.

If your tail and running lights use standard automotive bulbs, you can buy LED equivalent ones off from Ebay.
