Question about slides

Hi all! Do the slide tops hold water after a rain? And, does everyone (on this forum) get up on the roof and inspect for debris before they hit the road?

Thanks!
Kim

Our slides have never held water and I don't usually look on the top of them unless the trailer is parked under a tree.

Our slide never held water but the slide topper does. It sags in the middle so when bringing the slide in I need to do it slowly so the water runs off. Not a problem but just something to remember so the material does not bunch up.

I don't have a slide topper, but my slide top doesn't hold water, but can collect debris. So I do check the top of my slide before closing, never know what could have blown or settled on top while camping.

Even though my TT has a rear ladder, I use a multi-purpose ladder that I always have with me to check the slide roof. The less foot traffic on the main TT roof the better.

This is the ladder I use (sale prices under $70): http://www.homedepot.com/Tools-Hardw...atalogId=10053

Mine doesn't. If we are camping under a lot of trees (which I prefer), especially in fall, I will usually send one of my kids onto the roof with a broom to make sure there is no debris. Either my 12 or 14 year old love it. We let the one that "helps the most" have the honor.

10-4 on the slideout awnings holding water. Last year I had the experience of camping in Cherokee, NC when we received a 8" snowfall. It warmed up a little the next day and melted some of the snow on the slide awning, then it refroze. When we got ready to leave, the slide awning wouldn't roll back in until I broke up the 2" of ice that had puddled in the slide awning. Nothing like walking around on your roof with 8" of snow on it.........Just one more experience to add to the collection of memories.

I carry a ladder like Rustic, and always check the slide out before putting it in. Wouldn't take a chance on smashing a limb or even leaves against the seal on the RV. The slide-out top does puddle up in areas, and I do not have slide out covers. I just use a chamois or rag to get it as dry as I can before putting it in. (Too many other things that I can't control will go wrong I figure, so why not eliminate all the problems I can control?)

I just grab a broom and sweep it off from the ground as the wife rolls it back in.
