Question about Towing 32 BHDS

I am picking up my 32 BHDS this week with a 2007 Chevy Suburban. I am towing it to a permanent site. I am going to install a brake control, however, it looks like I am only a few hundred pounds under capacity. What is your advise? Any suggestions.

Ist it a 1/2 ton or 3/4 ton Suburban? How far of a tow? What terrain / types of roads are you driving?

More info would help.

You said a few hundred under capacity - do you mean the trailer is a few hundred piunds less than your TV can handle, or the other way around? Talking payload, right? With a 32BHDs you'll have about 950 or so of tounge weight.

My Excursion has a towing capacity of 9600lbs. Once I subtract from that the weight of everyone, except the driver, in the vehicle. I then have only 8800lbs towing capacity. My TT ready to camp weighs just under 9500 lbs. I use a Reese dual cam and load evenly.
We went to Disney from NY last summer. Driving no faster than 65mph we had no problems.
I think as long as your w/d system is set up properly you should be fine.

Even with the TT "not loaded", the ship weight is going to be around 8,000lbs with a tongue weight over 1,000lbs. Since you are placing it on a permanent site, I would make arrangements through the dealer to have it towed to the site...., save yourself the WDH expense and worry.

You could also rent a truck.... Cheaper than wheel hubs / bearings / accidents...

When we purchased our 32BHDS we did not have the w/d set up yet. The RV service center that was going to install my Reese dual cam went to pick it up. They used a F-450 and brought it home without a w/d system.
On my first camping weekend with the new TT we had a problem with the snap up brackets, both bent and fell off, on the way home. Since we had 20 miles to go I decided to tow it home the rest of the way home with out the w/d system in use. Steering was poor since all the weight was on the rear of my Excursion.
Since that experience I researched and found out there are heavy duty snap up brackets for heavy TT's. They are now installed.
You should see if U-Haul has any heavy duty trucks you can rent.

This trailer squats my 2011 F-350 pretty well. I would rent a truck. You will quickly get over the 10k point with this trailer. Great trailer, just real heavy.

If he does not have w/d , make sure to go slow. All that weight on the rear bumper plays havoc with steering.

I guess with a F-350 you don't have to use a WHD? I don't know about that but it does not squat my 2007 Tundra Crewmax with a WDH. The GVWR of the 12 32BHDS is 10200. That's the most you can put on tires and axles. Ready to roll from dealer it is 7895 lbs. That includes battery and propane tanks full. Mine weighs 9195 lbs fully loaded w/cargo and 80 gallons of fresh water in tanks. The dry hitch weight is 1055, but with adding batt, propane, water, and cargo in front pass thru box my tongue weight is 1271 lbs. (13.82% of total TT weight.

How far over the GVWR are you with the trailer in tow?

How does it do in the mountains?

I towed a lighter trailer with a 2500 Suburban with an 8.1 ltr engine. I was always slightly over the GVWR for the Suburban. The engine did reasonably well towing in the mountains.

Under GVWR by 200lbs. GCWR is 16,000lbs. and I am under that by 500lbs. I have never done mountains and honestly don't think I would want to. I am at my Max and would like a stronger TV but it's the wifes truck and she's not going to trade it for a diesel. It gets very poor gas mileage but I offset it by riding a Harley Road King Classic.

I read the curb weight for a 2007 Crewmax 5.7 ltr was 5300 lbs and the GVWR was 7,000 lbs. When you posted a tongue weight of 1200 lbs, I was wondering how you could stay under GVWR with the car loaded for a trip.

I have a friend with your trailer and he tows with a 2009 Chevy Silverado 2500 Duramax. He loves it.

Per owners manual curb weight is 5300 including all accessories 4x4 all fluids including full tank of gas. Almost half of tongue weight is distributed back to TT axle. Per owners manual GVWR is 7200, 5300 curb weight 671 of tongue weight to vehicle 260 me, 650 wife and kids 100 hitch - 6981 is 218 under GVWR. Everything else goes in TT. GCWR is 16000 for Tundra now take tongue weight back off total weight of TV cause it is included in total weight of TT. TV is now 6310 TT is 9195 = 15505 which is 495 under max GCWR.

Yes, I was at Lone Star Yogi in Waller for the weekend. It was a great time. I don't understand people saying "camping season" because I go all year long. Maybe it's the difference of were we live. We would camp for New Years weekend when it was 35 degrees outside, or in august when it's 108. My goal for this year is to go atleast once a month.

This next weekend just me and the wife are going to Austin for a quiet weekend together.

It squats pretty well without my WDH. With the WDH it only goes down about an inch and half. I truly appreciate the 6.7 Diesel with this trailer. 65 MPH up and down Rocky Mountains. I think the big three all make great trucks and toyota is great as well. The modern transmissions do an amazing job controlling the vehicle. When looking at trucks I went from a 93 suburban 1/2 ton with a 4300 camper to a 2011 1 ton with diesel and a 2012 32BHDS. Love the setup and would not change a thing.
