Question on a sound in the water system

I recently purchased a 1999 Jayco Eagle 314 in wonderful condition. I moved the trailer to its final destination and when I hooked up the water to the city water system, I noticed a humming and vibration when you turn the water on. It sounds like it is coming from the rear of the trailer. The water pump is off and has been double checked, as we are using city water, and I have a pressure regulator and water filter conected. The sound and slight vibration comes from the bathroom sink, shower, toilet and kitchen sink. Has anyone ever heard of this and if so, do you know the fix? I was wondering if a line could be kinked, but the water pressure is fine. I would appreciate any help.

Thank you,

Eric Mills

I was at a CG in Virginia that had back flow preventer's mounted on their spigots....every time we ran the water you could hear a humming sound.... could that be it?

No, the spigot has nothing attached and the hose comes straight out. It does have a splitter for two seperate trailers out of the main, but no one else in the area has the same problem and if a back flow regulator is attached, I cant see it.

I think I read something in my manual about humming or vibration s with the water system. I don't have it here with me but I believe it said the lines may have loosened up with travel causing them to vibrate. I would think that is a good possibility with an 11 year old unit. I could be way off but something to look into. Good luck.

Thanks for info. I will give the water lines a look. This is really starting to stump me.

Does it make this sound all the time or just when you hook up the water for a while?

The sound is there when ever you turn the water on. There is a slight vibration in the pipes and that was intially why I thought is was a high pressure issue, but even after the regulator it still does it.

Eric the only thing I can come up with is a pipe strap may have come loose somewhere, causing the pipe to shutter when in use. Other than that all I can think of is the valve that diverts water from city or shore water may have a sealing issue.

Eric

I had a Holiday Rambler a few years ago & had the same noise as yours. After being puzzled like you, I found the noise was coming from a back flow valve built into the city water line as JaycoJoe mentioned. The valve apparently vibrates as water flows through it.

That certainly sounds like my problem. I will ask the camp ground owner and check. Thank you very much for all of the wonderful replies. I greatly appreciate it.
