Rainier St Tires on 2017 Jayco Jay Flight

We need some help?
Our 2017 Jay Flight 29 RKS has about 2000 miles on it. And we are somewhat concerned about the Rainier ST Tires. We are planning our first long trip and not sure if we should replace these tires now? I guess it is a known fact that
RV manufactures are known for putting average tires on new units.

If anyone has thoughts or info about these tires, we sure would appreciate hearing from you.

Thanks
Tom and Kathy

Tough call. Some have had issues but I'm sure a lot haven't. This is our second season on the Rainer tires and i plan to finish this season on them. With that said I do plan to change them out before next season...

I just replaced the factory tires which had about 1500 miles on them with the new Made in USA Goodyear Endurance tires. I didn't trust the factory tires, heard so many stories of them coming apart and causing major damage to the TT.

We put about 8,000mi on our RainerST tires on our 2015 Jay Flight 27RLS without a problem. We changed to Goodyear Endurance just prior to a ~4,000mi trip early this year.

Upgrading from the Rainer tires was in our plans for later in 2017. But, when Goodyear came out with the Endurance tires in late 2016, we decided to make the change in the spring of 2017. Our alloy wheels are OK with 80psi, load range E tires. The GY Endurance tires have been great so far.

For what its worth, I don't recall anyone on this site reporting problems with low-mileage RainerST tires on a TT.

I keep saying I am going to replace the rainers that's on our '16, but they seem ok so far. I am very intrigued by the new GY Endurance tires vs the Carlisle HD's. And I am not a big fan of GY.

The best thing you can do is make sure they are aired up to the max cold sidewall pressure before the beginning of each travel day. I also use a laser thermometer at each stop checking each tire and hub temp.

I also have Rainier ST tires on 2017 Whitehawk. I have the swap in mind, but I am thinking also about switching to 15 inch wheels. Did anybody do this on Whitehawk? Where to buy the rims?

The Rainer tires on my JayFeather 7 18RBM are C rated and are barely good enough to get the unloaded trailer out the door, with the trailer loaded to max capacity the tires will be overloaded.

This afternoon I'm getting Goodyear Endurance D rated tires put on, I also stepped up one width to a 215, instead of the 205 series. This will give me a margin of safety.

Best,
Steve

While I dont have that trailer I just bought new wheels and tires for my trailer. (Too bad you dont live closer I have some 15 inch tires and wheels for sale at a very reasonable price). I actually bought my wheels from Discount tire they price matched the best price I found on the internet and gave me a $100 card for buying 4 wheels with a promo they had going a few weeks ago. A couple of the places I looked at were

#1 In Trailer Wheels - Steel & Aluminum

15 in OEM Trailer Wheels Rims, Chrome, Aluminum, Steel, Galvanized, Painted, Custom Trailer Wheels

Both carry Sendel wheels which, well at least on my trailer were oem

There are plenty of others but iirc recstuff had the best price on what I was looking for don't forget about shipping some places offered free shipping and others didn't.

You will kick yourself if you have a blowout on your trip with those Rainier tires. Plus the DW will not be happy when you're on the side of the road instead of getting to your vacation.

We have 10,000 miles on our Rainiers (C load rating). Always at 50 psi and driven at 60-65 mph. No issues. We have Good Sam roadside, just in case...

Under inflation is death to tires. The hot to cold cycles age RV tires more than time.

IMHO, if you have been running the tires within the above engineering parameters, you should be fine. If on the other hand, you have $700-800 to buy peace of mind, replace them.

Got back from America's Tire Store with the installed Goodyear's, first thing I noticed was less gentle side to side swaying, Anderson sway control hitch. The going up one width wasn't a problem space wise. The Chinese may-pops were C rated with a load rating of 1760 lbs. x 2 in my case for a 3520 lb. total. The max weight for my TT is 3975 lbs., which I doubt we'll see. the Goodyears are D rated at 2200 lbs. x 2 4400 lbs. a nice safety factor in my book.

I was out the door for $310 which included a tire warranty and the absurd Santa Claus County sales tax.

I can't understand, how Jayco can use tires which are not sufficient by specs to support the rated weight of the trailer. Shouldn't they be liable in case of blowout? I guess they could use the argument of incorrect tire pressure, etc., but really, using under rated tires...? I need to check mine...

Let's see...

6000 miles to Ohio in 2015, 4000 miles to New Mexico in 2016 and 7000 miles to Massachusettes last month plus the occasional weekend excursions would probably put close to 20,000 miles on the stock Rainier tires that have always managed to stay nice and round on all of those miles. Your mileage may vary.

Depending on the outcome of the soft floor, a new set of GY Endurance are in Murff's future. Or, if the outcome is not favorable, may have to see what my local dealer can do for trade-in value.

Our Raniers are still OK, I check them often and don't tow over 65 aside from occasional passing. Somewhere in the neighborhood of 12-15K on them. I considered changing them before our major trip last summer, which was cross country. I do plan to change them before I do that again, but so far have made the decision to monitor closely and run them.

Just had one disintegrate. At 60 mph on a two lane road we had to call the cops for traffic assistance. It was on the drivers side

It had repeatedly been going soft after brushing a curb.
We were 50 miles from any town

We now have tires rated to 81 mph. Handling better too!

I'll run the Endurance in a few years, by then any unforseen bugs in that design should be old news.

Jay Flight wheel width, anyone know that spec for the 225 OEM? Thanks.

We have 2 years and about 6,000 miles on the stock Raniers. We had a bent axel which Jayco replaced via the axel manufacturer that caused some abnormal tire wear. Just got the axel fixed last week and bought some GY Endurance from Tire Rack. With the local mount and balance it came to less than $500. Feel much better having more substantial tires. Haven't driven them yet. will let you know how they behave.

Hey need-a-vacation speaking of the thermometer at what temperature is high a number for tires , I want to get the tpms but right now I can't afford it? I seen a few at Habor Freight that I was thinking about getting.
