Real Time HELP!

It's stormy and we want to pull our awning in, but the circuits are blown, we can't find the burned out fuse - and we can't find the manual awning retracting thing. We've had this trailer just a week, it's still in the driveway, and we have no battery power at all right now, and we're desperate to retract the awning. Can anybody tell us where to look?

What trailer do you have?

My first advise would be to lower one end of the awning. Usually you can lower one end and the rain can drain off better. If you pull down on one of the awning arms, then tighten it down, it should hold.

Sorry not more help.

I can't, but suggest you weather the storm by tying it down. A couple of ratchet straps on each side of the tube tied down to something solid will help significantly. We have used 5 gal buckets filled with dirt or sand as anchor points.

I don't think electric awnings have a very good manual override. It's one of their weaknesses.

Good luck.

FYI rain shouldn't be an issues, wind in the concern. The awning will self dump even if it's not pitched to one side.

Yeah, wind is the issue here. We can't change the awning angle on either end because it is not fully extended. We have a 2016 White Hawk 23MRB. Jim thinks it will be okay - because it's not fully extended - but at the moment, we have no battery power at all; some fuse is blown, or fuses are, and we can't figure out which ones. Assuming the awning survives the wind tonight, we can probably sort it out tomorrow. If not, we have to cancel our first trip, 'cause it's a dry camp. Not very happy campers right now! (We think it has something to do with testing the solar-ready solar connection, just because that's the only thing we did today that we hadn't done before.)

Secure it with straps to any solid anchor point, it will make it through.

There is an electrical connector at one of the awning corners. You can disconnect this and wire 12V directly to the awning motor.

as slinger says, there is a removable cover on the front arm of the awning where the motor is located. You will see 2 terminals. Most rigs come with a cord with clips in it. If you put battery + and - to those terminals, the motor will move. If it moves the wrong way, reverse the polarity on the terminals.

My info on it says that any voltage from 9 to 13volts dc will do.

Thanks, all. We'll check for that awning motor! The awning did make it through; now we have to call the dealer and see if we can get some help figuring out how to fix this so we have battery power again. Good to run into these problems ~before~ we are on the road, but hope they don't keep us from ~being~ on the road!

Jim found the (30 amp) fuse that had blown, and replaced it. Now we can work the awning again! May have to get a new solar thing, and will still call the dealer this morning to discuss that, but at least now we have hope that we can leave in the morning on the scheduled first trip. Yay!
