We are thinking about adding a external water filter to our 2017 whitehawk, do you guys have any recommendations on which one to get?

What do you want the filter to do for your water?
We use 2 'whole house' filters in series; a sediment filter in front of a carbon filter.

We used the Camco 40631 filter last year but we still had a chorine taste in the campground water, I had thought of installing an under sink unit on the cold water line and still may do that. I just purchased an additional Camco 40042 filter and thought maybe going through two it may help our situation. I have not tried it with the second filter yet but I will let you know if there is any improvement. Good luck.

Some of the campsites we have been to water feels like there is oil or lotion in it. Wife doesn't like that feeling, so we are wondering if by install a water filter can get rid of that problem.

That doesn’t sound normal, I think I would pass on their water, filter or not.

I haven't seen filters to remove an oily feel. You'll probably have to experiment to find what works for you.
Start by searching for an opaque housing that holds a standard, whole house filter housing. There are lots of the them for $15 & up online and hardware stores. (I bought one yesterday at Home Depot on their clearance shelf for $10. ) You want opaque because sunlight can cause algae to form on the inside of your housing... not a good thing.
There are many different filters made to fit those standard housings. The usual string wound etc. filters remove sediment, but may not do the trick for you. I'm guessing you'll need either a carbon wrapped or carbon block filter. Filters with carbon remove chlorine and the sulfur taste from water.
The downside is, the better the water is filtered, the slower it flows. So, once you find the right filter media, it may flow too slow for showers etc. Our way around this is to fill our fresh water tank with the filtered water. The flow from the fresh water tank for showers and everything else is great.
That's a start. There's lots of info online about filter media and filter 'micron' sizes to filter cysts, etc. Dig in! It's all part of the adventure.

Cabela's has one online under "new this week" closeouts for $20. It includes a flexible hose end.

We just use the outside camco filters. But inside we have a Brita filter pitcher which we use for cooking and drinking water. I have a brass elbow on outside of trailer to attach filter to so it hangs straight down, doesn't stick out from trailer.

I do the same thing. One thing you need to keep in mind is the flow rate of your connectors, y-adapters, pressure regulators, etc. All impact flow into your rig as well as your filters. My two filters are both rated at .5 micron and in the park I am in right now they don't last long. Lots and lots of particulate matter, but replacement filter cartridges is better for me than otherwise good water.
Lots of good info https://www.rvwaterfilterstore.com/ at this site. I am not related to this site in any manner other than as a satisfied customer over many years.

I'm sure what you experiencing is very soft water.

That's what I was about to say. It makes it feel like you can't wash the soap off you.....drives me crazy.
I don't believe a filter is going to help that part, but it will protect you against other solids in the water.

I use a 2 canister system. It takes "standard" 10 inch tall whole house filters. Mine came with a bracket that neatly attaches to my ladder when I am camping.
https://www.rvwaterfilterstore.com/B2417.htm
And it comes with 2 sediment filters and 1 carbon filter. I used it in Lake George, NY and when I went to drain the filters by taking them out and the carbon filter was normal, but the white sediment filter was orange! Wow, that was a shock. So I would say that my set up is doing something.
Note: I only use the filters a few weekends a season (maybe 5 times/10 days) so I dry the carbon filter out completely and replace the sediment filters each time. When everything is bone dry, I put them back into the canisters and in the storage bin till next time.
I have had good luck with the RVWaterFilterStore.

Somehow related to the topic - if I am not drinking the water from fresh tank, is it worth / recommended to use filter? I have never done this - just filled up the FW tank (usually I do not have hook ups) and used it for showering, etc.
