Reese Dual Cam question

Hi All,

I have a new 32bhds with a Reese dual cam.

I bent the snap brackets my first trip out and it is clear that my installer made a number of mistakes.

One of the mistakes appears to be that indent on the hanging bracket was facing the wrong way. The installer had it facing out rather than toward the trailer frame.

But here is what confuses me, I have attempted to reverse the hanging bracket and the cam arm just does not sit well in the bracket now. The bracket itself seems to get stuck on the cam, rather than resting in the slot like it should.

Any thoughts or ideas as to what is going on?

Ensign, if you post a picture or two it might help others visualize what you're talking about. Without really seeing the issue, it's hard to make suggestions but you might start with the installation instructions and verify that things are where they're supposed to be.

Problem solved!

What had happened was that the bend in the hanging bracket was pointed out, rather than toward the frame. Over time a small ridge had been etched in the bracket, so when I went to turn it around it would not fit on the cam properly. I had a welding shop shave the ridge off, took around 5 seconds for each bracket. Now it fits correctly.

Friends, with the 3rd generation silver cam, be sure that the bend faces toward the frame.

when they installed my Reese Dual Cam they installed the brackets wrong also. In addition they apparently threw the bolts away in the package that they figured they didn't need. Since I was in a local RV park I scanned the installation directions and ordered out the bolts from Reese and they over nighted them to me. On my first trip I didn't like the way the brackets didn't snap into place. The safety pin was the only thing holding it in place. I reviewed the directions again and found they had installed the brackets backwards. Once I turned them around everything worked great on mine. Fortunately I had tools with me on the trip.

Just what brackets are being installed backwards I have a Reese Dual Cam as well and have bent two snap up brackets. Called Reese and they sent me two new heavy duty snap up brackets. But I have looked and cant see what brackets could be installed backwards.

Depending on the "version" of Reese HP Dual Cam you have, the brackets that are being reference are the "Hanger Brackets" that the chain is attached to.

The first "HP" version (gold metal color) has a flat bracket, and the bracket should be mounted to the Cam Yoke Arm such that the small U-bolt threads are facing "outward".



The second "HP" version (silver metal color) has a bend in the top shoulder of the bracket, and the top bent shoulder should be facing "inward".

What was backwards was the "bent chain hanger". This is what hangs down from the snap bracket. In the newer versions of the dual cam there is a bend in this chain hanger. The bend should point toward the frame.
